I'm having problems with the electrics in my Ford Focus (2001). About once a week the car won't start and it seems like the battery is dead. This happened a few times so we replaced the battery (which was really old anyway) but the problem is still happening. We also had a new alternator fitted in January this year so it shouldn't be that. There are also weird things happening with the electrics e.g. wipers not working, speedo flicking up and down and other random issues. Please can anyone help?!
You may want to look at the neutral safety switch. The shift linkage!!! Weird things that things causes. I had 1997 Taurus would not start because it though it was in gear. When started and running you put in reverse the radio quit working. LOL weird man.Try to push the shift lever up or down one way when turning the key. If it start get a new ns Switch. $37 pretty easy to install.

a speedo problem, take dash out ,spray it with wd40 and it will last a bit longer, but you will end up having a new one,if its still under warranty take it back

If the starter motor is sticking, it can draw a large current. If there is power down to the starter motor while its not starting then the starter is faulty. You can test this with a multimeter or just a test bulb connected to the smaller of the two wires on the starter, while cranking.Check you have a good earth from the battery to the engine. If the bulb lights up but no engine cranking then its a faulty starter.

SOURCE: HELP!! Having electrical issues with my 2005 Pontiac
electical is hard to diagnose with out being there. i would treat each problem seperately. first you will need to test the engine temp gauge sending unit. in a dealership this is easy with a scanner they can run a sweep test to se if the gauges are responding.you don't want the engine to over heat if the gauge is not working. next problem the dome light should be easy to fixe does the dome light work with the dome switch?remove the bulb and with the doors open and switch on check for voltage, if voltage check connection and or replace bulb. if no voltage check fuses for voltage.last will need to have the dtc po243 checked out by a repair shop. i hope this will help.
