My playstation 3 has stopped reading disks!
i put the latest system update on my ps3 and a few hours later i was playing fiffa 08. half way though the game it said disk error and froze. so i turned the system off and now its not reading any disks please help!
Sony used a bad batch of lasers on earlier models of ps3. Mostly 40 and 60 gig but like any other electrical component it has the chance of taking a s**t. Sony will replace or repair your system if the warranty sticker is still on the console, if now open the BD and replace the laser with a new laser (not refurbished). I have taken hundreds of these apart and its always the same. The laser burns out mostly due to **** on the disk itself so be sure to have nothing on the disk.
Same thing happened to me while playin fifa 08 and after dat ma system won't read any disc
i hav got it repaired and found out dat the lens hav been completely destroyed
there are two solutions to fix this:
1.get a new ps3 lens
2.call sony and replace ur system
Lool....wooow..when was the last time u
Turned it off while update is running
left ur shirt next to the fan...over heated?
left it on in a room below room temp.
Formated the ps3 and forgot to download the update
any of these could have been a problem....as u see...just like the xbox 360...and or wii....a console can over heat very easily if not careful...i cant really help u much...because honestly u haven't really told me the problem

you can try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:
Turn off Playstation®3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system
will turn on and turn off once again. 3. Once the System has been
shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4.
When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will
be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS
button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery
Menu supports: • Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System. •
Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. •
Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. •
Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3. • Restore
PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. •
System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System
If the above
steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update
Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).
on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle
then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others
as well as cookies.
You could also try this as well: put the PS3
on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch
the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still
holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this
may cool it down. It might be over heating.
If after trying the
above options and it still does not solve the problem, then maybe the
lens is weak and that's why it cannot read any disc.
But if your
problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further
You can back up ANYTHING you wish to keep via the backup utility what I'm about to tell you to do will essentially erase your harddrive. After backing up any data you wish to keep, restore your PS3 system and to a FULL ( not quick ) format of your harddrive ( this will probably take a couple of hours ). After that, if it still doesn't work call SONY.
ts a problem with the latest download update. sorry to say but its a
job for sony as long as its still under warranty. just phone them up
explain the probs your having and they will send you a new (normally
reconditioned) unit out. sony's replacement service is very good
