My ge washer starts spining to drain water then stops

Ok the belt broke i replaced it now its all most fine except for when is time to take out the water stars but 15 seconds after it stops and smells as burning motor it resets it self after a minute and dos it again

  • hombrede40 Apr 30, 2009

well the belt is not loose, will you have another clue

  • hombrede40 May 01, 2009

thanks for your comments to try to help me any way ....
the belt has like 1/4 to 1/2 of deflection the belt also has a tensor that is helped by a spring so the belt dos not look like the problem the key thing here is that the motor stops like is forcing it self..( question dos the pump starts to pump out water before is spinning or dos it do it at the same time ?

Sounds like the belt is loose. The burning smell is the belt heating up. The motor shuts down because it's heating up from spinning on the belt.

How much deflection is there in the belt? Can you push it in 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1", ... etc?

The water pump runs during the entire drain/spin cycle.

I guess the pump could be worn & binding.

Does the motor ever get up to full speed before it overheats and shuts off?

GE washer not spine

First thing you can due is to manually move the time to drain and spin mode. This will check your timer to see if your timer is working. If it start working then it is your timer. It will be your timer gone bad.

Ge washer won't stop draining water even before

Hi,
Try these
  1. Inspect the drain hose for kinks
  2. Test the timer control
  3. Test the lid switch (some models)
  4. Inspect the water pump
  5. Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
  6. Inspect the motor coupler
Pls rate my suggestion...

Non-spinning washer

Have you checked the motor? Make sure that the motor is turning properly and also make sure that your belt it not to tight. It should have some give in it. If none of that works then look at the main bearing under the pulley on the drum

GE Washer Spin Cycle Problem

gnarly, do you have the updated motor, harness and start cap? If it goes into spin and does this chunk a chunka chunka bit. Take a meter to the white and white/red wire going to the motor. If you have a steady 120V, replace the motor with the new kit. What the motor is doing is jogging between high to low speed. Catriver..post back.
