Question about Logitech Harmony 659 LCD Remote Control

2 Answers

Battery drain All, I am currently experiencing an issue where it asks to replace my batteries every 3 or 4 days. This problem just started about a week ago. My remote has not been near any liquid or other materials that might cause the boards inside to short. If you have seen this problem before please let me know what I might be able to do. Thanks

I have the same problem. It started happening soon after updating my remote software. I moved and didnt have cable for a while, and when I was re-configuring my remote to my current entertainment center setup, I also updated the software. At first the batteries lasted a couple weeks, which I thought was really short. Then i replaced them with a new set of Energizers and they lasted 3 days. I don't know what the problem is.

Maybe your using relatively cheap batteries with a low capacity.

I would try GP powerbank batteries or simular with charger with a high capacity like GP 2300. If it still drain quickly there is something wrong with your remote.

2003 nissan altima 2.5L 4 CYL would'nt w'out jump.replaced battery and car was fine for two days. On day 3 , after car was sitting for 15 hrs dead again!garage cant find whats drawing when car is off

Do you see a brake light on while driving? That could be a bad alternator.

Ask your garage to perform a parasitic draw test - you could do this with a multimeter, as well; it sounds like something is draining your battery while off - it could be any fuse and not obvious like with lights on/etc.

I would 95% positively guess this is the issue due to time frame. If the garage doesn't know what this is, take her somewhere that does. Shouldn't be costly, either.

I have a 2002 chevy cavalier. Battery is 2yo. Car will take a jump. Does not make any clicking noises, and lights, horn, radio work. Car would not start day 1,got jump ran fine, day 2 needed jump again, ran...

Weak connection between battery post and cable. Since the jumper cables bypass this, by clipping on the cable ends, the car will start with a jump. Takes less current to start a warm car than a cold one, hence it starts all day. I would look closely at the cable ends where they attach to the battery. Clean them until spotless with baking soda and water and terminal cleaner brush.

If this does not solve the problem, clean the chassis ground on the other end of the - battery cable and + cable where it connects to the starter.

Check your alternator output also. Battery should not be defective in 2 years.

Possible current drain when key is off. Put a voltmeter inline with the battery and check for draw. If you get more than a few millivolts something is on and drawing current. Glove box light maybe? Check by pulling fuses until you find the source of the draw.

Drained battery

Clean the battery terminals and cable terminals. Hook battery back up. Try to start again (with or without jumping). If it starts , make sure the charging system is working. If you have a voltmeter (or gauge in car dash). You can drive to autozone, Oreillys or most auto parts and they will check the battery and charging system free of charge.

Electrical issue?

say what lights exactly , the cab of cars can have 20 freakn lights.
stop guessing, please, and huge costs an labor, !!

you car has what is called dark current.
you saw the light fai,l in the dark, and ignored that.
that IS The problem , it flattened the battery , that is NORMAL.
Normal for and illegal DRAIN.

ok, I see lamps on, key off. HL switch off. Head Lights (HL)
so , i pull fuses 1 by one, and bingo X fuse kills the lamp(s).
i trace that fuse path only ,using my ammeter.

here is a phantom drain page.
shows 3 ways to trace it, best is an ammeter.

think of a car electrics as a tree.
and one branch as a problem?. the fuse protects each branch
from catching fire. and allows you to measure the current on each branch very easy.;
we use the ammeter to find which twig is shorted (switch closed in error or , a real short, of random happenstance_)
is this better/
good luck to you and do ask any questions. (how to, on all)

Sounds like a battery to me. The cold doesnt drain the battery it just makes it more difficult to produce enough energy to crank the car. If the battery is weak already, the cold just makes it worse. Replace it and move on!

Hello Mark. Have you had the battery checked. Next time it is going to be standing for a few day's disconnect the + battery lead and replace it when you are going to start it again. If the battery is drained then it's the battery that's faulty not the car.
