Most likely yours has a scroll compressor which are notorious for being quite loud on start they will start for years, just a liitle noisy. Is the water from the pvc drain or from the base of the outdoor unit??

Brand New 2 weeks old 4 ton Trane compressor leaks a lot of water onto pad

If the unit is running in cold weather than there is ice building up on the coils located outside. This is normal in that the unit is running in heat pump mode heating inside and cooling outside, After the unit detects the ice build up it briefly reverses the cycle heating the outside coils melting(defrosting) the ice which you observe as water on the pad.

The video gives you an example of the defrost cycle!

I have a new 5 ton Grand Aire A/C. It seems to take much longer to cycle than my old unit did. Also my plenum is sweating in my attic? Is this normal? Any Suggestions?

sounds like poor airflow if unit is same size as old equipment and duct work is sized correctly you can try raising fan speed if using a pleated type 90 day filter switch to fiberglass non-pleated type filter that restricts less airflow. Also check return air for leaks you could be introducing unfiltered hot air from attic or enterior walls.

Hi,my name is PK I have 5 tons Rheem air handling 10 year old. it is vertical type. How to fix the leak at evapolator coil. it leaked at the bottom right side. Can I use epoxy to seal this leak.Or replace...

Epoxy wont hold you need a new coil. about 8 to 12 hundred depending on your location. If it is 10 years old I would suggest you change the air handler. You will get a lot more efficient unit. Cost about 2200 but you will get a 10 year warranty from most manufacturers. Dont buy one unless you get a 10 year warranty. Russ

AC not cooling during the day

Your AC cooling efficiency is low when he ambient temperature is high and naturally it cools well when the outside temperature drops.

Please remove the filter on the grill and try to clean it under the tap water and after removing all the dust fix it back to the unit. This would increase the cooling efficiency of the unit.

Your AC is also five years old. Please avoid frequent opening of doors or windows.

Ensure that the exhaust fan and the blower of your unit are functioning normal.

The technician might not have done a proper job in fixing the area where the refrigerant would have leaked out. Please check the refrigerant pressure to ensure that no further refrigerant leak has taken place. Or even servicing your unit he would have punchered the tubes resulting in very slow leak of refrigerant resulting in no cooling or less cooling. It takes around a month to feel the pinch of it and the refrigerant. One fine morning after sometime the unit will run and it would start throwing hot air instead of cool breeze!

Water leakage from internal unit of split AC

Draim pans do get dirty and partialy block drain pan. If possible take a shop vac and gently **** out the drain line. This will pull the restriction out of the line and help clean drain pan. Rusty

Coil blew up on outside unit, is it better to fix or replace whole unit?

Depends on where the coil is leaking. Also the age of the unit. If it is just a small leak a serviceman can repair it. You have to look at how much it will cost to repair, And the cost of new unit.. The new unit will be a 13 seer and may not match the inside coil. . Also some Companies are selling 10 year parts and labor warranties with new units. Look at the leak on your coil to see what caused the leak. Most of the time it a rubbed line or drier leaking. If you have to cut away fins. Buy another condensing unit. When you cut away the fins you loose heat conductivity. Higher head pressure could cause damage to unit. Rusty

Coil leaking freon on the inside unit. Estimate is $2,100!

If indeed your evaporator (indoor) coil is leaking, the best option IS replace it (it may not even BE repairable). If you live in the USA and your furnace is getting old, a new ultra high efficient SYSTEM that qualifies for the tax credit would probably be a better option (Obama will pay 30%).
