My Epson Stylus C86 won't print. The red light keeps flashing indicating paper jam. I checked my utilities followed the instructions to the letter but it continues to say paper jam even though I checked and theres no paper jammed anywhere.

Try to find thge combination of buttons that reset the printer. there are many possiblities due to the modles - but try pressing any 2 and whilst holding them down switch off and then on again. Also this utility could proce use full. When it is loaded -right click the task bar icon.

The red and green lights are flashing continously and it won print

The lights continually flashing indicate a paper jam or the printer being out of ink. Check/clear any paper jam and verify the ink cartidge is set correctly.

Stopped printing both ink and paper red light

Depending on the way the lights are flashing you could be able to fix this reasonably easily.

If the lights are flashing at high speed together (ie: at the same time) then it's a fatal error and the chances are you have some kind of problem such as:
  • paper jamming up the works
  • loose wiring
  • the cleaning station sometimes pops up out of position and stops the printhead getting back into the parked position. If this is the cause you have to push the white wiper plastic down and to the right before allowing it back up and into the mated position with the parking pad. Takes a little work but it's easy enough.

Problem #2 is the waste pads and that's indicated by the flashing lights alternating rather than together.

If it's this then rather than reinvent the wheel (I've posted about this soooo many times now) here's a helpful little guide here: (the C86 is the same as the C88 in terms of the waste pump/tubing design)

Resetting the waste ink counter requires the SSC utility from or a suitable adjustment utility which can be found for download if you search hard...

Hope that lot helps but if you get stuck, post again and I'll do what I can.

Printer stopped working Epson C86 and red middle light button on

The red middle light is the paper feed indicator. If it is on, it means the paper feed is (or the computer thinks it is) jammed. Remove all paper from the hopper and make sure all bits of paper are removed from the feed mechanism. Press the paper feed button (the middle one) a few times during this process to try to feed through any jammed pieces. If this doesn't work, you have an internal jam or broken feed system, or your main board has gone haywire.

Any further investigation requires you to remove the printer top cover, which you may or may not feel like tackling. If you don't, take your printer to a technician, or sell it on E-Bay for what you can get. If you do, post a new comment to this effect and I will provide a tutorial on removing the top cover. It's not difficult if you know how.

C86 Epson printer will not print.

Please see your user manual for the meaning of the various light combinations, or if you don't have one, see:

and look at "Diagnosing Printer Problems".

BOBDOYLE - can you confirm which red light is flashing? If it is the ink light, see the instructions for changing ink cartridges. If it is the paper jam light, check for a paper jam. If you still cannot fix it, come back with a new comment giving any further information.

If this advice was helpful, please rate it.

GUESTS - you both have quite different problems to bobdoyle. If you require specific further help, please register and post a separate request for help.

Let's Try first if it can print without using your computer just to check if printer is working fine by itself.
Make sure its not connected to the computer and there is paper loaded on the printer. Turn off printer, press and hold paper button (middle button) then press and release the power button (right button). If you can see a flashing green light release your hold on the paper button.
If it prints by itself good go to step 2 if not check what lights do you see. Solid red light on ink light (tear drop button) means one or more inks is empty. Epson printer will not print if one or more ink is empty.
Check if computer can detect printer goto start/control panel/systems/ click on hardware tab and click on device manager
On device manager click on Universal Serial Bus controllers press on the "+" sign check if there is USB printing support on it
Check if there is a mark (ie. ?, !, red x mark). If none good there is no conflicts. If there is a mark right click on USB printing support and click on update driver and install recommended
