Please don't post product key numbers as they are personal and purchased by you; and likely to be used by people who install pirated versions of windows. If you are getting a pop up on boot up saying your copy of windows is not genuine, then you must take it back to the seller, or if it's second hand then the previous owner has installed the system using the incorrect product key. If your product key is genuine then do the following and use your product key. Click on Start and then Run. In the text box in the Run window, type regedit and click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder under My Computer and click on the (+) sign next the folder name to expand the folder. Continue to expand folders until you reach the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents registry key. Click on the WPAEvents folder. In the results that appear in the window on the right, locate OOBETimer. Right-click on the OOBETimer entry and choose Modify from the resulting menu. Change at least one digit in the Value data text box and click OK. This will deactivate Windows XP. Click on Start and then Run. In the text box in the Run window, type the following command and click OK. %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a When the Windows Product Activation window appears, choose Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows and then click Next. Click Change Product Key. Type your new, valid Windows XP product key in the New key text boxes and then click Update. If you're taken back to the previous screen and prompted, choose Remind me later. Restart your PC.

When I start my laptop amessage arrive for "Activation code" so please give me a vista activation code

If this is a brand new computer then that means that the Windos Vista installed in your computer is only a trial version which has an expiration date that's why its asking you now to purchase the Full Version of Windows. You can contact Microsoft to purchase a full version of windows vista or try to verify to the manufacturer or the store where you bought if the computer only comes with a tril version of windows vista.

On screen warning saying I may be a victim of software counterfeiting

The message is prompted by Microsoft Windows WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) software.

To start I must advise you that the best thing to do is contacting Microsoft, and asking them as to proceed, as the system installed on your computer may be counterfeited.

See:How and when to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support

If you get the Microsoft Genuine software warning, that usually means that the installed system key is not recognized as valid. This often happens when the system is installed with a number that is not the one printed in the sticker.
In some case the WGA message was prompted in presence of genuine Windows installation because of a system bug.

If you have a Windows version that is the same as the license number printed on the COA sticker, then the best thing to do is changing the number and then validating Windows again. See here:Genuine Microsoft Software.

If your installed software is a different version from the one you have a valid COA (eg. XP Home Edition on sticker vs. XP Professional installed), then you must install the Windows version for which you have the license or purchase the proper license for your system. Any unlicensed use of Microsoft software will be illegal.

In case you want temporarily need to remove the Genuine Microsoft Software warning before installing genuine software, you can follow the steps below.

Method 1 System Restore.

A system restore to a date before the warning started will stop the message.
The restore will set the the computer to the same state it was in the date before the warning message started.
The data will not be deleted, but all settings and software installed after restore date will be affected. Do a backup of your data before starting system restore.

See: How to perform System Restore on Windows XP

Method 2 Software utilities.

There are several utilities to remove the WGA logon message. Try the ones listed below.

Remove WGA 1.2.exe.

Method 3: Delete software and change registry values.

You can get rid of the message changing the registries below. Do a backup of Windows registry before starting. If you change te wrong registry entry, Windows may not start. If that happens, then you will have to get rid of the problem installing a genuine Windows.

Launch Task pressing Ctrl Alt Del at the same time. Look for the process “WgaTray.exe” and stop it.
Start computer in Safe Mode and delete the file WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache
Type Regedit in Run box and open Registry Editor.
In Regedit find the entry called : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify key.
Delete the folder WgaLogon and all of its contents.
Restart the PC normally.

The methods to remove the WGA message are not a solution to the problem. The procedures illustrated will remove the warning, but the system will not be properly licensed. Arrange reinstall of the system according to Windows version listed in your COA , or purchase a valid Microsoft product.

I am getting on my screen :your soft will be counterfeited make your windows 7 genuinemy system is not up dating microsoft security

HI. Microsoft security essentials, or any Microsoft security entity for that matter, will not allow itself to update its data base definitions when there is an pirated or counterfeit OS installed on this particular system. The Microsoft security platform will attempt to verify your installation of windows for proper certificates and correct and viable key codes, before the update process begins. If in any way this verification cannot be completed, due to a pirated copy of windows, your computer will not be able to receive any updates for windows or the installed security platform. You will need to purchase a real copy of windows form your local retail store or borrow a identical genuine copy form a friend.

Basically; This is just a system message stating that your copy of windows is not genuine, therefore, halting any updating services. if this is a pirated copy of windows that you have installed on your PC, kindly, uninstall it and reinstall a genuine copy of windows. This will correct the update functions.

I have used my computer for months with no problems. Windows Vista ultimate was installed. it was expired. When I tried to reenter my Product Key I'm told it is invalid. I have tried to activate both over...

When you say vista ultimate was installed, do you mean you installed it yourself?
Is the COA on the bottom of the laptop for Vista Ultimate?
If the COA is not for ultimate( usually home or premium) then the copy of Windows re installed may not be genuine.
If all is well and it is a genuine copy then a call to microsoft is your only option(IF it is a retail copy)
If it is an OEM copy of windows you may have to pay for a new key

Purchase computer 3 yrs ago with Vista. Turn on computer today and black screen with This copy is not geniune in bottom right corner. Need confirmation ID but no one at Acer or Microsoft will help me...

Several possibilities:
1. a computer-virus is displaying that message.
2. Windows itself has messed-up, i.e., _falsely_ issuing the message, for no good reason;
3. somebody installed a "bootleg" copy of Vista.

Look on the bottom of the laptop.
Is there a genuine Microsoft sticker, indicating that the computer was shipped with Vista (or XP???) pre-installed? Is there a 25-character product-key?

If you have the original "System Restore" set of CD-ROMs that were factory-shipped with the computer, then backup your data (to an external disk-drive), and reinstall Windows, using that product-key on the sticker.

If you don't have those CD-ROMs, ACER will courier-ship you a replacement set ($20 plus shipping).

So, in brief, backup/reinstall/restore.
