Re: grage sale labtop.

The other problem with USB ports on laptops is they come loose at the solderjoints because of the USB plug sticking out and getting banged around. You can check the plug by GENTLY wiggling the the plug while it is plugged in. If it is loose, go the PCMCIA route, its much cheaper and you may not find anyone who would attempt to re solder it anyway. Good Luck fnshman

Hi with the USB port they often wear and can be tightend by gently prizing up the flat contact strips inside the socket, this requires a fine needle and a steady hand. If this fails just install a PCIMA USB card. the fan could be faulty, if you can use a multimeter then test the contacts and see if you have power to it. Regards mistyman

Caqn i put a 700Mhz Dell Pentium III in the same

No, you cannot exchange them. I was not able to determine what socket your notebook uses, but the 500 Mhz mobile Celeron was only available in two formats. One was Socket 495, which has no Pentium III processors available (only Celeron). The other is BGA2, which is not a socket at all, but is soldered onto the motherboard and is thus virtually unremovable.

Dell inspiron 3800 has power issues. I tried 2 separate ac adapters, took out battery and tried. the light comes on on the ac adapter and as soon as you plug into the back of the laptop, the ac adapter...

you have a shortcut circuit in your laptop. most probably power diodes that is in entering conector of adapter in your laptop have gone or some of rezistances located there. you have to service laptop.

No power

This might work. Unplug the power cord connected to the back of the PC. Press & hold the start button on the PC case for ten seconds. Reconnect the power cord & try starting the PC. Still no power. Connect the power cord from the PC directly to a wall jack. (No power strips). Still no power? Possible the power supply went bad.

Display on laptop loose

Try tightening all the screws around the hinge area, if that is not the problem I am sure the actual hinges can be replaced for a fairly reasonable amount.
