The gps does not boot

The gps starts up and within 2 seconds it shuts off, the battery is brand new (original). Even with the ac adaptor the same problem occurs.

Re: the gps does not boot

Use with caution: This will delete your user data on the unit.

Try a reset:

  • Hold QUIT pressed when turning unit ON (will delete waypoints, routes and tracklogs)
(This worked for me when I had a similar problem.)

You could try a master reset;
  • Hold Zoom-OUT + QUIT + NAV and power ON. Hold keys for 10-12 seconds.
  • You lose all almanac and temperature compensation tables (it
  • reconstructs itself but takes time - several hours)
  • Be patient - it will take HOURS for the unit to recover
Fair warning: I have not personally tried the master reset.

Not getting a GPS signal. What do I need to do?

Usually, after you turn on the GPS device, it may take a minute or so to start up and lock into the satellite signals. While it is waiting to get a valid GPS signal, it is "listening" (scanning) for satellite signals to establish your current location.
If you are in the open outdoors, i.e. not inside a building or under extended covers, it should get the satellite signals within a minute or so.
If you still can't get a GPS signal, consider shutting it down ... using a "hard" shut-down (hold down the on/off button for 5 seconds or more ... to re-boot the system/software programs. Then, wait a while before starting it up again. Make sure your device is plugged in and/or the battery is NOT low when you're doing this.

Magellan RoadMate won't compute if connected to power

unplug the charger, then turn the 1200 on, once its fully booted, hold the power button for 15 seconds..the screen will go blank after a few seconds, but continue to hold it for 15 seconds.

now, with the charger plugged in and unit off, press and hold the power button for upto 7 seconds or till it starts.

if that fails, let me know and i can tell you something else to do.

TomTom ONE GPS receiver waiting for a valid GPS signal forever...

well the reset button is behind the front face cover. However I doubt this will do much for you.

Reasons for not connection.
1) Battery is too low and needs full recharge via AC adapter
2) Poor position or being overshadowed by buildings or other electronic devices

3) Dead SIIRF chip caused by starting motor with the GPS plugged to DC power. Might work a 100 times without problem 101 kills it. The whole mother board needs to be changed. Cost often exceeds value.
No device should be connected when staring engine. Even a fused DC adaptor somketimes does not blow the fuse when spiked and will allow enough spike to pass to kill this delicate echip. Even mobile phones will suffer this problem pooof! gone within 10 seconds!

The eraticness may be a faulty charged batterty but I doubt it.

Tomtom ONE will not turn on

it may wel get power light on but if the battery has collapsed then it will take forever to accrue a minor amount of charge. USE the AC adaptor to charge it and see if whilst it is connected ( after hour) that you can turn it on and get a display.
You could also get a new battery for it if it does respond. failure could indicate that battery acid has leaked and done damage, even Lion batteries break down

Gps dosen't hold a charge. ac power charge, or mobil charge

Ahh, the notorious battery problem. I had (2) units that would not charge or turn on (red light just kept flashing). I opened the unit and disconnected the battery on (1) and completely removed the leaking battery on the other since I could not find replacements batteries. The units work fine now when plugged in (AC or DC adapter of course !). Still looking for a replacement battery...

Garmin 178C Boots up then shuts off

I've had a similar situation with a Magellan, it would power off despite being plugged in.

Its usually a battery issue, perhaps its not getting enough power? You could try to unplug it and do a "hard battery reset" depending on the type of battery. Keep turning it on and let it run out, until it wont even turn on anymore, after that plug it into a charger while off and allow it to charge completely. Turn it on, see if it still shuts off.

Good luck!

Magellan 2200T will not accept charge

Well, I am not sure if your problem is the same as mine. My unit stopped working as well after about 1.5 years.

I opened it up, thinking the battery might be a goner. But after opening it up and checking the battery with a voltmeter, it looked good.

On re-connecting the battery, everything worked fine...loose contact maybe? Its been working fine so far.
