Freezes @ Mobo Splash Screen

Built a system with this mobo for a friend back in February. It is currently freezing on the mobo splash screen. If I press Delete to enter the BIOS setup, it says "Entering Setup..." and freezes. I was able to boot successfully to the OS once, and then successfully rebooted using a boot CD to make a backup of the boot device because of other problems she's been having. The freezing started for me, after I made the backup and rebooted, but she says it's been happening quite frequently before I got there.

Re: Freezes @ Mobo Splash Screen

It is clear that the system is showing hardware problems. Motherboard should be the cause... it is a recent motherboard so it may have a warranty supprot. I suggest that you should replace the motherboard if problems persists [and if warranty applies]. Hint; If the board is out of warranty... try replacing the CMOS battery. Re: Freezes @ Mobo Splash Screen

You have i would say a corrupt bios, if it can't even select the splash screen, i'm assuming that you have tried to reset the cmos by means of the relevant jumpers, either JBAT1, CLRCMOS or CLRCLK or similair. If so and still nothing, when you built the system you may have stressed the board fitting the heatsink and fan or the memory causing the mobo bios chip to fault or it is simply a manufacturer fault and therefore up for exchange of faulty goods.

Won't boot... power and/or battery issues

Check your ram, then your power supply. an intermittent fault such as that would be difficult for anyone to solve as there are no details of the symptoms. Do you get to POST? Do you get the welcome splash screen? What operating System are you running? Do you get a blue screen when it crashes? How old is the Power supply? Does the CPU fan run?

Display is intermittent

the problem is with the nvidia gpu. the solder on the bga balls is unleaded and does not have the flex of leaded balls. the gpus needs to be heated on an ir solder station with preheater to 210 degree C for 30 seconds. this should cure it. if it still does not work, the gpu needs to be reballed. you can obtain replacement balled gpu from ebay. you do need to prep board correctly and use proper ir solder station to do this.

POST problems or XP Stop 0x8E

run memtest 86, test each ram stick, if it shows both as bat, then your mobo;'s memory controller is bad. if neither is bad, then it is your graphix card
