Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-U10 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Low battery indicator

I have a Sony Cyber-shot U digital camera and although I have purchased 2 different sets of batteries the camera still indicates low battery function and immediately shuts down. They are Panasonic AAA. Any suggestions? Cheers.

I have a low battery indication with a fully charged battery on a Sony DSC-F717. What do I do?

First, even a fully charged battery may not be working right - VERY common.
Does the camera do this on two batteries, one old and one much newer? (I say this because lithium batteries are good for about 500 charges - if you are over this, the batteries will always read weak...)
A service shop can test the camera and see if the battery is reading correctly. A service shop may allow you to try the SHOP's good battery in your camera and see if it reads right. If OK, you need a new battery.

The service shop can reload the operating data into your camera - I have fixed them this way myself.
If not, the circuit board that handles charging and batteries may run you $275 plus labour. (The board is not repairable)

How to reset a Cyber-shot® digital still camera back to original factory settings. Solution
sp.gif sp.gif Cyber-shot cameras nowadays have a built-in rechargeable battery for retaining time, date, and other settings. Since the built-in rechargeable battery is not removable, current Cyber-shot camera models can only be returned to the original factory settings by pressing a small RESET button on the camera or by using an Initialize option in the menu.
Older-model Cyber-shot cameras (prior to the year 2000) do not have a built-in rechargeable battery and do not have a RESETbutton or Initialize option in the menu. These cameras require a manual power reset.
IMPORTANT: To determine whether or not your camera has a RESET button or Initialize option, or for other model-specific information to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
Follow the appropriate procedure below for your camera.
Using an Initialize option in the menu
Since Cyber-shot cameras have different menu system layouts, refer to the instruction manual specific for your camera model.
Using a RESET button
  1. Locate the RESET button on the camera.
  2. Use a pointed object (like a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the RESET button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. After 2-3 seconds has elapsed, release the RESET button.
Performing a manual power reset
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove the battery pack.
  3. Remove the button-sized lithium battery.
  4. Allow the camera to remain without power for 30 seconds.
  5. Reinsert the button-sized lithium battery.
  6. Reinsert the battery pack.
  7. Turn on the camera.
If your camera is experiencing an issue and the issue is not resolved by performing the appropriate reset procedure above, then service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

2 cameras one charger

Greetings Juana1,

Model G and Model E batteries are of different size and connections, therefore the dedicated chargers wont work for both. You may be able to find a universal charger that can accomodate both, however Sony is fairly proprietary with items to match their products.

I hope this helps!

Battery/power-up problem

For what its worth I had this same problem with both rechargeables and alkcalines. Fresh batteries were rejected after just a few shots and were clearly NOT dead. Solution seems to be either use Sony's NP-NH25 cybershot battery which is made of two AA batteries jointed at the hip or use generic rechargeable NiMh batteries with a capacity superior to Sony's battery (>2500mAh).

Manual settings - shutter speed not indicated

Shut down the camera - remove batteries, leave for an hour- reinsert batteries- Did it recover? If no get onto the Sony Technical Support Team - This indicates a firmware failure which they and only they can sort.

Low battery indication

You have either a faulty charger, a faulty battery or a fault in your camera. I purchased 2 batteries for my Sony 505v and from new one of them kept flashing an empty battery sign right in the middle of the display. Actually it was fully charged but Sony batteries have a little circuit inside them which tell you how long the batteries will last. In my case I could continue to use the battery but put up with that flashing icon. I returned it to where I purchased it and it was replaced Immediately. Please ,next time give us a little more information as to what battery type it is and which camera it goes in. Some cameras can develop a natural short circuit over time. BMW
