Question about Acer ALW 3016 Networking Switch

3 Answers

Home networking I have an internet connection on 1 PC using a one port ADSL DB102 modem (streamyx line). I wanted to access the internet from another PC at the same time. I have connected my 2 PCs as per the manual. I can see the PCs within the workgroup but am not able to access it. I can also see the LAN icon on both PCs. I still cannot go into the internet. I can only use 1 PC at one time to access the internet. Is there any configurationn that I need to set under the LAN properties - getway or DNS or anything of that sort. Pls advise.

Re: home networking

Hi nurzailyn, If your DB102 modem is connected to one of your computers, say PC1, then the Ethernet/Lan port of PC1 is already being used. How is PC1 then connected to the second PC,say PC2? Do you have a second Ethernet/Lan port? Or are you using a hub where both PC1 & PC2 are connected as well as the DB102 modem? I would assume the latter since as per your post "...can see...PCs...also see...LAN..." Now your problem is only 1 PC can access the Internet at a given time, therefore I would assume that BOTH can access the Internet BUT not simultaneously. If this is the case, then there is NO need to change any of your "LAN properties - Gateway or DNS or anything of that sort" on either PCs. What you need to change is the setting of ADSL DB102 modem (streamyx line). To my knowledge this particular modem as provided by your ISP (TMNet?) will only allow one PC by default. You have to activate/enable its router features to enable any number of PCs to share the Internet connection. On one of your PCs, open a browser: 1. login to the modem by typing "" and username : tmadmin; password : tmadmin; 2. Click on the Quick Configuration button (leftside); 3. In Encapsulation choose PPPoE LLC; 4. Default Route should be Enable (very important); 5. You may have to enter your Streamyx username and password; 6. You may also input DNS numbers: Pls confirm this with your ISP or Status check one of your PCs (that is currently connected to the Internet) by right clicking on the Networking icon (bottom right side) and clicking on the Status. Click on the Support tab, click on Details button, log down the DNS Servers; 7. Hit the Submit button (bottom); 8. Click on Admin (page topmost); 9. Choose Commit (save changes), then Reboot (leftside) to cycle the modem. 10.Upon reboot, pls verify that the modem's WAN Interfaces indicates a green PPPoE Encapsulation. Hope this be of help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Re: home networking

You need to go to control panel>network set up wizard on the pc which has the internet connection and when you go through the wizard amongst prompts select, allow other computers to connect through this computer and then finish off the wizard. On the other computer you do the same but, on this one select this computer connects via another computer on the network and again finish off the wizard.

Is it possible to connect a standard DSL modem - without Wi-Fi (with 1 Ethernet port) and a DSL modem - Wi-Fi (with 4 Ethernet port) to broadcast Wi-Fi singles

Does the non wifi modem give out DHCP addresses?
Can the wifi modem be set up to receive it's IP address from DHCP?
If the answer to both these questions is Yes then that's what to do as a first step. Make sure the wifi modem DHCP service is disabled as it must NOT give out DHCP addresses.
Connect the ethernet port of the non wifi modem to one of the LAN ports of the wifi modem and NOT the DSL/WAN port. The wifi modem is not participating in any DSL connectivity at all so it's DSL light will remain off. The non wifi modem is doing the DSL duty so it's DSL light should be correctly illuminated.

Need driver and firmware for LinkSys RTP 300, or how to set it up for simple home network with interneton the PC and laptop as the 2nd computer.

No drivers are required since there is no actual installation to to the computer. Connect the ISP modem to to the main LAN network port. Then use any available port to access network. 1.Power 2.Main drop. 3.Network. That's it!

If the router is used, you may want to reset custom settings by, holding in the reset pin till it cycles.

Advance setup.

How do I configure My 10 Computers to connect internet, I am using an ADSL WI-FI Modem+Router(ADSL DSL2730U).

This is an unmanaged switch so it is very simple. Plug a network cable from each PC to the switch and plug a network cable from any port on the switch to an available port on the router. That is pretty much it.

Hi nattycampbel,

Sounds like your provider is only assigning one IP address to your network. You will probably need a router of some kind with a WAN port. If you need a hand, call me at Net2Vu and ask for Chris.

n if ur server is connected with other pc on lan .. you can use internet sharing option available in winxp.

Following are the steps to enable Internetsharing for other pcs.

Connecting to the Internet with more than 1 computer (using a PureData 16 port device)

The PureData 16 port is just a hub and does not perform any of the housekeeping functions you would need in order to create a home network and connect several computers to the Internet at the same time. The reason why your procedure works is because your service provider by default will only allow you to have one IP address. When you unplug your modem that forces the providers equipment to reconnect to your computer and reissue the IP address. The way to get your desktop and laptop to connect simultaneously is to go down to your local computer store and purchase a home router/firewall. I?ve seen some on sale for as little as $35 at times and are fairly easy to setup. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
