I turn on the unit and ask for directions to somewhere. However it stays at locating satellites with no change

  • Mirasha Nov 23, 2007

Same problem - try to get directions and it just keeps saying acquiring satellites. The bars on the upper left are empty. I presume these are signal bars.

I have set and saved my home address over and over again. The solution sounds great, but doesn't really say how long it took to get a map that is not for Kansas to be located..... Since the manager got the GPS to work on more than one, I am guessing it couldn't be that long. Did I miss anything, turning it on and off each time? I am trying that now.... Help if you can! Thank you VERY MUCH. Think I will love this thing if I ever get it to find out I live in New Mexico, and the streets in Kansas don't help me at all! LOL

i, like mystam, tried to use the solution. it made sense, but after the 8th time, i became fed up. is there anything else that i have to do? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our C340 has only recently taken waaay to long to find satellites. I am wondering, since this has only occurred after owning with very good results for about 2 years, that the rechargeable battery is starting to fail. Does anyone know anything about this?

  • Anonymous Feb 11, 2008

I just bought a new car and when I use the cd player it renders the C340 useless by blocking reception of satellite signals. I noticed that as soon as I either turn off the player or eject the cd the gps resumes tracking. This does not happen when listening to the radio. Other than refraining from playing the cd player I know of no other solution.

My Garmin c340 is not able to acquire satellite reception. After I specify destination, it tries to connect to server. I kept it on for 20 minutes and it kept on trying without any results.

I have the garmin nuvi 660 and my buddy just recently borrowed it for a trip to virginia. he got about 10 miles from our house before turning the unit on from where it was last used and said that it never acquired satellites. he proceded to use it without gps signal only for it's loaded maps while driving through north carolina and virginia and back to tennessee.

when he returned with the gps unit, i connected it to my computer, and used the webupdater to update the firmware (as well as some car icons, voices, etc)... set it up and left it turned on and looking at the "locating satellites" screen after clicking on the satellite signal icon for a few hours. no change.

it asks me if i'm indoors, and if i'm in kansas (when looking at the map with simulating gps signal i can see that is where garmin headquarters is....), to which all answers are NO...

so next step is to plug it into the car in the docking station, power it on, and leave it set up overnight to see if it acquires... i'm hopeful it works, because i'm really sad that it's not working... after 3 or 4 months of perfect use, now it's not working?

doesn't make sense.

Thank you all for the help. I had already downloaded updates and it told me there weren't any more updates that the unit was current. The bugger just fought me all the way.

I tried the reset address over and over to no avail. Finally after it was completely charged, I set it by a window and left in turned on with the finding satellite or whatever it said on it, and went to bed. By the next morning it knew where I was!

This can be easily fixed....
I had the same problem, I returned first piece and exchanged for the second. Had the same problem with second and took back to Circuit city. The GPS guys took out 3rd one for me and had same problem. Then the manager came who has been using these for couple of years and tried to set the home location 3 times and it worked 3rd time. He did the same for the second returned piece and it also worked. He says since these pieces are programmed for Kansas we need to give 3-4 tried before the piece first 'locates' satellite and then acquires satellite. After the the piece just turned out to be awesome.

My c340 stops at "locating satellites". I reset it

If your StreetPilot c300 or c500 series device is no longer acquiring satellites please read the article linked below to ensure that this is not being caused by something in your environment:

Why won't my unit acquire satellites?

If after reading the above article your unit is still having problems, please ensure that your unit's software is up to date. You can do this by using our WebUpdater® program.

If you have tried all of the above suggestions and your unit is still not acquiring satellites, you can perform a master reset by doing the following:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
  1. Start with the unit powered OFF and unplugged from power.
  2. Touch and hold the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.
  3. Power the unit ON and continue pressing the screen until a new message displays, "Do You Really Want To Erase All User Data?".
  4. Touch Yes and go through the set up again.
Take the unit outside and let it set with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites. If the unit still does not acquire satellites after this, please contact Garmin Product Support.

Fails to acquire satellites. Garmin 310

I'm assuming you mean a Street Pilot c310. If so, here is the link to the unit software from Garmin. Download it and follow the directions. Once you connect your GPS, it will update the device software are hopefully should fix the problem with it acquiring satellites.

Garmin nuvi 350-can not change the location it is stuck on

you may need to reset it, as in resetting the c340, turn off and then press back on again, if this does not work maybe the reset button is in the same place as it is on my c340, instructions for the c340 is as follows: place your thumb nail in the groove located under the Garmin logo on the face plate, gently pull off the face plat, press the reset button, turn the unit back on and hopefully it will operate normally

C340

First, be sure you are outside, in the open when making this diagnosis. Some cars have metallic defrosting layers, which blocks the GPS signal. If, when outside in clear view, you still have problems, try this...

Have you tried a hardware RESET? The button is hidden behind the front panel, which snaps off by a fingernail slot located directly under the GARMIN logo on the front panel.

* Use caution removing and reinstalling the front panel... it's somewhat fragile... wiggle it a little to get it off.

Press where it says "Press to Reset", hold for a second or two. Charge the unit with the car cord or USB cable, then try to turn it on again.

Once you can get the unit to (hopefully) turn ON, you should run all updates (there may be several!) using Garmin's Webupdater. (Connect to computer with USB cable first.)

Hope this helps!!
