DVD Does not work when using HDMI from Philips TV to Bravia

Not sure if this is an issue with the Bravia but...I just bought the Sony Bravia home theater system from Sams this weekend (DAVHDX678WF). The system is connected to my Philips 720P, HDMI 42'' LCD TV (model # 42PF7421D) via a direct HDMI connection.

When I set everything up yesterday the DVD played fine when connected via the HDMI cable but a few hours later when I tried to watch another movie the TV screen was split vertically - on the left side was the DVD movie in pink and green tones and to the right was the Sony Home Theater background with a flashing checkered picture. I made a few changes to the Setup so I reset those to the original settings but no luck.

I have uploaded a picture of my tv screen at: http://s47.photobucket.com/albums/f193/gosocialclub/?action=view¤t=braviascreen.jpg

If I change the connection from the HDMI cable to a component video connection then the DVD displays fine on the TV, just not in a great HD picture.

Any ideas why the system can no longer display the DVD properly when using the HDMI cable? Like I said, when I first set it up yesterday afternoon it worked fine so I am not sure what could have happened! Sony on line support says it sounds like the theater is faulty but I would hate to pack it all back up, take it back to Sams, exchange it, get the new system set up then this issue happen again because the problem is not with the Bravia.

I have tried a different HDMI cable and I still have the issue and I have powered everything off, disconnected all the cables, reconnected everything, and powered it all back up but that didn't help either. I have alos tried different DVDs but they all have the same issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. I called Sams and they said I could just bring back the main unit and they would switch it out.

You could see if they will exchange just the unit and save both of you the hastle of checking and repackingit all. It does sound like the unit is faulty.
Or if your Bravia has more than one HDMI input then try on another, or a friends tv if you know some one with a HDMI tv in working order.

If you still have this problem with the new one, I would suggest trying to find and change the setting on the home theater for the screen size. The system might be set to a smaller non widescreen setting.

How do i program my sony dvd player dvp.sr200p to work on my philips tv

No special programming is required. Connect the DVD player to the TV using an HDMI cable. Note which input jack you used on the TV (example: HDMI 1 or HDMI 2, etc.) Turn on the DVD player and insert a DVD disc and play it. Turn on the TV and select the input you used to connect the DVD player (example: HDMI 1 or HDMI 2, etc.). You should now see and hear the DVD disc playing. Most settings are pre-set at the factory so everything will work without adjustment. However, both the DVD player and the TV have a Menu where you can adjust settings for picture, sound, etc. if desired.

Hdmi port stopped working on sony bravia KDL-32L4000, when I connect my ps3 or direct tv trhough hdmi cables I will just get a blank screen that will say no signal.

I have a Sony Bravia model KDL-46s5100 that had the same problem. All HDMI ports stopped working. I don't know why this works but unplug the TV for about 30 sec, then plug it back in and hold down the power button on the tv for 10 seconds. Like I said I don't know why this works but it worked for me. Good luck.

Bravia indicates no signal from Sony BDP S350 DVD

I once had a similar problem, although with a different TV. It was insufficient to just power down the TV -- I had to unplug the TV so that it would re-initialize. It solved my issue.

Toshiba HDTV + SONY PLAYSTATION 3 + SONY Home Theatre DAVHDX265

I have looked up the infomation on your TV I noticed that your TV has two HDMI input plugs. Since your SONY BRAVIA is hooked up to one port, you need to buy another HDMI cable for your PS3. On your tv remote you should have an option to switch from video 1 to video 2 so then you can switch from the SONY BRAVIA to the PS3 the problem is you will only hear your PS3 Sound from you TV. If you want to hear your PS3 sound from your SONY BRAVIA you need to buy an optical cable (also called TOSLINK) to connect from your PS3 to the SONY BRAVIA.

Hope that helps!
