Re: computer mode

Hi follow this steps: Make sure that you have installed the USB driver for the handycam. You can download the drivers from this link: Sony Asia Pacific Support Website--Download Page for HC40E USB Driver for Windows. Connect the handycam to the AC adaptor (the same as putting it on charge). Set the handycam to USB stream mode. (Press P-menu, press MENU, Press EDIT/PLAY, Press USB MODE, Press USB Stream.) Set the tape at the point from where you want to start capturing in PC. Connect the handycam and the PC with the USB cable. (USB-Mode appears on the handycam LCD / viewfinder.) Start Windows Movie Maker. Click on the 'Capture..' link to start the wizard. Select the Sony Digital Imaging Device. Click Next. Specify the file name and path for the capture video. Click Next. Select the desired capture format and Click Next. (Leave it to recommended setting if you are not sure.) The dialog box now displays the Start Capture and End Capture buttons on the left and preview window on the right. Play the tape on the handycam. The video from handycam should appear in the preview window of WMM. Click the Start Capture button to start capturing the video. Click End Capture to pause or stop recording. Click the Finish button. The .wmv file will be saved in the path specified in step 7.

How do i get footage off of my camcorder and onto my computer?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer video from your camcorder to your computer directly, The camcorder id an Analog device and the computer is digital. You would need some sort of analog to digital converter to accomplish this. There are several devices on the market that will suite your needs, however they can be expensive. The easiest way to achieve this would be to have a " Video Transfer" service put the videos on DVD's and then transfer them to the computer for editing.

If this has been of any help to you please give a positive vote.

I want to copy video footage onto PC/Mac from Sonday Handycam

You will need a standard video/audio rca cable (has a video out connector and audio on left side of lens), and a tv tunner (check that it has the rca in) that you can get as either usb (better double check if you have a usb 2 port on computer as it might be needed for capturing the video) or as a pci card.
Ussually the tunner would have a software to "capture" the video to the computer. And you would need to put your cam on play mode and start "capturing" and stop both the software and cam when the video footage ends.
I recommend corel studio 12, as it is very easy to use. Basically with corel no know-how required. Simple choices. Another great sofware is dvdsanta.
This would be for the pc.
Best wishes!!

A mannual for the cammera can be downloaded from: on the bottom of the page you need to type in the letters on the square and press download.

Video transfer

If you're using a Windows Vista Operating System it'snot possible to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using the USB connection. The videos from the tape camcorders cannot be transferred to Windows Vista Operating System as there is no USB Streaming ooption available on the Windows Vista Operating System. The Camcorder uses the USB Streaming function to transfer the videos to the Computer. You may wish to purchase a i.LINK/Firewire cable to connect the Camcorder to the Computer in order to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer.
There is an update for driver on the Sony website to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using the USB cable.

You may also try installing the driver update for the Camcorder. The i.LINK cable gives a better video transfer qulaity than the USB transfer. The i.LINK cable used to connect the Camcorder to the computer depends on the number of pins available on the i.LINK/FIREWIRE port on the Computer. The i.LINK port on the Computer is a D shaped port which is labelled as i, DV, IEEE1394 and Firewire.

Can I send data from the Handycam DCR-DVD105 to my macbookpro???

Unfortunately, your camera does not have a USB jack, and does not have any way to transfer digital data from the disc to your Macbook.
I'd suggest loading your disc to a computer with a non-slot loading dvd drive, download your footage there, and either burning the data to a regular-sized dvd or putting the data in a flash drive to transfer it to you Macbook.
Hope this helps!

How Do I Edit the Film?

Look for the output jacks on your camera, hook them to your computer's audio/video input. Try accessing the recording utility on the computer then upload footage through NTSC format. You can then edit the footage. If your camera and computer utilize S-video, use them for best resolution
