I just took some pics, switched off and placed the camera on the table. after a day when i tryed to switch ON, it was not working. so i thought it is due to low battery, but i came to know that something else is wrong. when the battery is inserted the red LED always glows.... i even opened the camera to see any loose connections, but couldn't find that. so is there any internal short or so......how do i rectify that
please give me a solution

If you were able to take one shot before the camera packed up it can be that the battery does not have charge on it and so after the first shot it has drained the battery. So check out the charge on it or repeat charging to test once again.
Other wise it can be that the camera control unit is faulty. Try and reset by removing battery for a while and trying once again.
Prakticam, unhelpfully don't have anything for their cameras more than a couple of years old and don't seem to care if you mislay the disc you paid for.So be warned, don't buy Praktica. I have the 5200, you have firstly to put your usb in computer, switch on camera, switch camera to view pictures taken mode, and because it auto switches to take picture mode you then carefully attach camera end into camera whilst camera is still switched on! Then go to my computer and click on F: the pictures download. Then to save them click on first pic, hold shift key down and then click on last pic they should all highlight, right click and then hover 'send to' and send by left clicking to my documents. I remember that it took me 4 hours to work it out. Found this looking for manual to download, cannot change date now......
if the camera is under warranty it´s free....if not it could be expensive, depending where u are they will send it to portugal or to czech republic, that´s where in europe all the olympus cameras are repaired, and they don´t have such software, i know i worked there, probably tis the card slot damaged, and they will replace it.
Sounds like the file allocation table on the card got screwed up. Try Googling Compact Flash Data Recovery. I know you're not using compact flash cards but the techniques for data recovery are pretty much the same regardless of the media. If and when you're able to recover what you can, I wouldn't use that card anymore myself. Good luck!
