Question about Philips CDR570 CD Recorder
MY 570 HAS AN ANNOYING FAULT I NORMALLY DO MY RECORDINGS IN MANUAL MODE HERES THE SET UP MANUAL RECORD.AUTO TRACK OFF,ANALOG INPUT UNIT STARTS OFF OK BUT AFTER 30/40 SECONDS DROPS OUT OF RECORD AND STOPS I am technical but hesitate to service without service manual Anybody suggest a cure or source of service manual OH BY THE WAY I'M USING THE CORRECT AUDIO DISCS TYPE R OR RW Thanks.... Barry
Just bought this CDR 570 and not use yet.
Reading the instruction manual - yes, life experience has taught me some really useful stuff! -
Under 'Discs for recording' on page 7 it says at end of section
To ensure proper working of the set we recommend the use of PHILIPS audio CDR and audio CDRW discs only'
Roughly translated I read this to me - 'don't blame us if the set don't work using other (non-compatible) discs' !!

Barry and all the guyes involved on cdr570 troublesome questions! I have one unit CDR570 from Philips, and more than 7 years I´ve been using that and this kind of problem is still usual! I loose maybe 3 or 4% of my CD´s recorded during my recordings. What I know is old Philips CDR (with yellow cover, of course, in Brazil) almost never fails! New ones (with black and red cover) not ever! TDK CDR and from other factories is good, depending from where they come (dealers....). Another hint is that when the optical unit is getting broken down (and it happens step by step) old Philips CD records ok, other ones anymore! Last step of optical unit is only read and records nomore! I changed optical unit recently in my CDR and all becomes ok, I recorded around 30 CD´s with new spare unit, and all they´re ok!
With my old unit, I believe have recorded more than 1500 CD´s, and I guess it worked fine, and I hope new one do the same!
Hugs all over - Adilson Jardim

Thanks for your comment PETE re 570
you mention that you have different results with various brand discs
you may have twigged the problem I have occasionally had a recording run the whole disc without problem but most of time
the dropout occurs I wonder if using genine PHILIPS disc would cure? the discs I have tryed are TDK CD -rw audio discs 80 min
Misubishi cdr-80 with various results sometimes they go ok some dont on your comments i think the prob most likely discs
wonder where we can obtain suitable discs
thanks yuor interest ...Barry

Barry, I know I'm a bit late but a similar problem is now occuring with my 570; I ran out of JVC74 CD-R's, couldn't get any more, so tried JVC80 cd-r's - 570 kept saying 'no disc'. Tried one more JVC74; perfect. Tried old Verbatim CD-RW80; perfect. Tried Maxell CD-R 80's - one in 3 would either display 'wrong disc', OPC Error, or simply drop-out when recording. Sound familiar? I can only conclude that six or seven year old cd-recorders (570's anyway) simply won't accept new discs with any measure of reliability, so if the recorder works fine with older discs, what's changed with the current ones? Pete.
