I did a search and all the cech-4001c models I could find where all 500gb so its a good bet that is what you have
to be sure you should try and check, To check Go into the 'Settings' on the PS3 Menu, then into 'System Settings' Then scroll all the way down near the bottom to 'System Information' Enter it and you will see the ps3 info including how much space is on the Hard Drive
Could be the Laser, Spindle motor, Laser track assembly,Or small relay which connects when the lid is drawn across. Have you tried an Audio CD? Also cleaning the laser iris when the power is off with a soft cotton bud and some lens cleaning solution. A quick video on seeing if the disk is actually spinning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeq-3s_WN2Q
Switch off the console. Press and hold the power button until you hear another one beep. This will reset your video settings. If this not help you, check your cables. Otherwise you have a hardware problem with your console.
It may be a bad power supply or bad power cord. If you just bought it and it is brand new just go back to were you got it from and exchange it for a new one. If the store doesn't help you then it does have a 1 year warranty on it and you can contact Sony directly and they will set you through the process to get it fixed.
This fix works for some models, so if it does not work for you please tell me your model number
Look at the bottom. This is what it looks like:

You can do this fan test. Turn the main switch off, hold the eject button.
While holding the eject button, turn the main switch on, when the power light is green, release it, it will beep The fan will operate at the highest speed possible and will eject any disc that is inside. After about 15 seconds the fan will stop spinning and the ps3 will beep 3 times and blink a red light. When this happens, turn the main switch off and on then turn it on normally. Let me know how this goes!!
P.S. It will not harm your ps3, It's testing the cooling fan.
IF YOU HAVE WARRANTY SEND IT TO SONY!
You can try powering on to your "diagnostic screen", (there are videos online to show you how) and try restoring your file system. If this does not work, listen to the area that you insert your disk while inserting. if it sound like it is spinning, then you may have a dirty lens. If it is making a "studdering noise" then your Bluray laser is bad and needs to be replaced. The part is about $50.00 on ebay on not hard to do.
IF YOU ARE UNDER WARRANTY SEND IT IN!Try "restoring file system" first. If that doesn't work listen to the drive very close where you insert a disk. If it sound like it is spinning then you probably have a dirty Bluray lens and alcohol and Q-tip fixes it just fine. If you here a "studder" noise (usually in 2 intervals) then you need a new Bluray lens. This tells you which one you need. http://www.ps3laser.com/ps3-laser-compatibility-chart/
Your model number is on the back left on teh console and starts with CECH.
