The cause could be 1 of two problems:
1.) The seals are worn out or broken. IF you remove the head of the pump and find the broken seals, they can be replaced with this kit:

This is caused by overheating in the pump, if the pressure washer is left of for several minutes without releasing the pressure. If this is the case, parts are available, but can be quite difficult to replace. I'd recommend taking it to a service center in this case.
