Monitor gone black but shows self test not floating

This monitor uses a power supply not just a cord . You can get one on e-bay very cheat . Just type out 2001fp an choose the person you want to get it from .

Unplug monitor form AC outlet, wait for few minutes and plug again.
Check cable attache to PC.
Hope this trick will work.

Although this site does not list the 2001fp speciffically it was very helpfull for me to learn about caps on power supply boards. Follow the steps of the "tutor" at the bottom of the page (after the testamonials) and its pretty straight forward.

check whether Line present during self test, and in Bios screen

If Line present it is Hardware failure, Monitor needs to be repalced

If Line no Present,. Perform Factory Restore

* Turn off the monitor
* Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
* Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on screen against a black background. What appears?

First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any
surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective.
What are the results please?

try to contact dell spare parts department. they may give you a good price.

It is probably either a CCFL back light issue inside the LCD or a set of capacitors on the inverter/power supply board.
Would you be willing to part with it ?
