Flickering switch light, blank screen

The power button is sunken into the monitors case. The monitors power light switch blinks constantly, and the screen is blank. I need to open the case, and do not see any locking tabs. There are two scoop like looking thing amjigs at the bottom. Are these for entry to the case?

My Dell E173FP 17" monitor just up and died--blank screen with flashing power button. Checked all the plugs and outlets, etc., nothing worked. Tried it on another Dell computer and nothing. Took my other Dell monitor from work and it works fine on my Dell 8400. I'm not a throw-away-and-buy-another kind of person and hate to replace it but will have no choice if there's nothing that can be done for it. What causes a monitor to just up and die?

Same problem. On-off light flickers but screen remains blank. Tried all possibilities and narrowed it down to the monitor. Existing cable and computer works just fine with other DELL LCD monitor. I am out of warranty, what to do?

Yeah, I got the same problem. Looks like its common. Im past the 3 year warranty too. When i turn on my monitor, it will display my desktop for a split second, then going into a rapid power off and on phase with all black on the screen.

Yepp exactly the same problem here as well.. The monitor died after about 3.5 years of use, so its out of warranty. The power button blinks and the screen is dead.

Hi, First of all it is not advisable to open up monitors without proper tools as they contain hazardous elements. Dell monitors however do have a 3 year SEPARATE warranty. Check on the back of the monitor and look for the monitor serial number. is should start with CN-xxxxx-,, or JP-XXXXX-. give that to a dell tech and they should be able to replace that.

Losing TV picture, screen goes blank,

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Samsung S27B350 monitor intermittently goes black and has a constant flutter. Could this be a capacitor problem.

I think I have the solution for this. I just purchased a monitor and it immediately began to flicker and then blank the screen. I pulled it apart, but to no avail.
The problem is caused by the computer powering down the monitor, for example a laptop will power down the monitor to save battery life. It is the awakening of the monitor that causes the flickering. Obviously there is a software bug in the firmware that will not allow it to synch properly. The fix is pretty obvious, just stop the computer from powering down the monitor. You can still blank the screen using a screen saver, which is what I have done, but you are not getting the full power saving.
I hope this helps someone else - it drove me crazy for a day or so.

Light on power on switch keeps blinking, screen blank.

Definitely a problem with the monitor. If you can get the back open then look at the main board and the power board. You will want to look for puffy capacitors. Instead of a flat top it will look puffy like its pregnant.

If you find any like that then you need to replace them with new capacitors that have the same Uf rating and at least the same voltage or higher.

This will take some unsoldering and soldering skills. Make sure the stiped edge gets aligned with the striped edge on the board.

If you replaced them then the monitor should turn back on. If it doesn't then its a screen problem and you'll need to get a new monitor.

HP L1706- screen is blank when I switch on

First if you have a extra monitor try to plug it in and see if it works. If not then check your video card. or get into the computer and try and remove and reseat the memory. Sometimes by just doing that can solve the problems

First please check whether the Monitor powering ON or not
the see the colour of light of the monitor i.e, its green or orange or not glowing next see that all the lights showing but constantly flickering or else just see u r VGA or DVI Cable which is connected properly to the CPU if it is ok then remove the cable connect only the monitor to different machine in case still not comming then finally it is a monitor problem or else just check all the connections inside the CPU

In case its monitor problem either it will not power ON or else all the lights will blink constantly that means the refresh rate or the Resolution of the monitor has been changed in case if it is done just connect a different monitor boot in the safe mode by pressing F8 button after entering there change the resolution which will be in the display properties apply and reboot the machine or else turn off u r PC and connect u r Old Monitor and Boot the Machine
