Media Disconnected (Windows Vista)

My internet randomly stopped working in my desktop computer, running Vista. My computer is directly connected to the cable modem (no router). After troubleshooting and contacting the internet provider we verified that it is 100% not the cable modem or the cable itself (I connected it to my xbox and it was fine).

After doing an IPCONFIG, I keep getting ''media disconnected''. I made sure to update the drivers (have internet at work). Still ''media disconnected''. Figuring that it must have been a hardware problem with my NIC I figured I would need to replace it. The problem is I have a crappy HP and I don't see a slot on my motherboard for a internal card (the current NIC is built into the motherboard).

My next course of action was to buy a temporary fix in an USB to RJ45 adaptor. After buying and installing the drivers I am still unable to connect to the internet. After verifying on the phone with the adaptor people, it was deteremined everything was installed correctly and it should be functioing correctly. In device manager everything seems to be ok, as my initial NIC, wireless, and now the USB to RJ45 connection all seem to be showing up.

My comptuer does have built in wireless, so I have purchased a wireless router (linksys) in an attempt to circumvent the hardware. The problem is I need the internet in some capacity to set up the wireless for the first time.

I am fairly inexperienced with this sort of stuff, as you can probably tell. I am really at a loss here and any help would be very much appreciated.

Your ISP is there to help you connect to the internet even supplying hardware to work with there network if they won't help try a different ISP when setting up a new account (DSL or cable) they will send a installer out and make sure you can connect. Good luck mysleuth

At start menu go to run and type: services.msc. If the Advanced Networking Services is enabled. Right click properties and disable. Reboot your system and see if that helps out. It worked for my Vista 64 XPS studio system.

My computer runs really slow, freezes, internet explorer hardly ever works. help!!

There is no such thing as a windows vista machine. You can install different operating systems on different machines. Your problem is most likely that you're missing drivers for the peripherals.
Download a program called "driver easy" and run it. It will tell you what drivers are missing, once you get all the drivers installed you should find things work better, like once you get your network running then internet explorer will stop having problems.

Can't connect to the internet. It says media disconnected on windows 7

Sounds like your internet connection is down. Check your modem and router (if you have one). Check the actual connection to see if wires are loose. It's telling you that there is no connection between your computer and any other device.

At the command-line prompt, try: ping www.ucla.edu

Ethernet on DELL 4550 with TP-link doesn't work

Hi there,

pinging 127.0.0.1 just tells you that your network card is operational and reacheable by your system.

I have a couple of suggestions - check them out and let me know what you found out.

  • Go to Network Connections / Local Area Connection / General Tab / Properties / Internet Protocol (TCPIP) (from the list)/ Properties. Are all settings set to "Obtain automatacally..."?
  • Is your operating system Windows XP Home or Professional (with Service Pack 2 installed)?
  • Have you installed the AirPort Utility software that came on the CD? (Check Start > All Programs > AirPort)
  • You have to have the software installed in order to setup the router.
  • What is your internet connection: Cable or DSL?
  • Take a look at this document "Designing AirPort Networks" which is also on the CD that came with the device. If you don't have it, here is the download (link). Go to page 25 and follow the instructions for PPPoE (if you have DSL service) or DHCP (if you have cable service).

Let me know how that works for you and if you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to look further into that if this did not work for you.

PC rebooting randomly when connected to our wireless account

Check to see if you nieghbor is not playing tricks on you. This sounds rel fishy that your computer reboots when connected to this guys router. Some one is loading something as soon as it is connected. Try loading it with you wireless acount instead of the nieghbors. Also make sure you have your current antvirus and firewalls loaded. But also check to see if Conflicker is an issue, this is a new virus that uses other computers as robots causing them to reboot and install software and make them do all kinds of illgal activites and this one writes to the bios.

Hope this information give you some idea please rate accordenly thanks.

Problem with wireless connection

trying going to run and typing "msconfig.exe" then choose the tab that says "startup" and uncheck everything then choose apply it will ask you to restart your computer and go ahead and restart

sounds like some program is trying to override your wireless, running the msconfig stops programs from loading up when windows does so if it is a program it wont load when windows restarts
