Ok! change all tact switches! your tact switch has abnormal resistance! thats why your tv is changing system!

Why does my RCA model# 27V412T turn on and off by itself? It's does not stay on long enough for me to reprogram the remote.

Hi There,
Sounds like your Startup Relay is intermittent. Contacts are closing (tv on) then dropping out (tv off). Worn or burned contacts do not make a good connection when they close and start to burn and overheat causing the contacts to open. When they cool down they may make contact again for a very short period. You need to replace the Start up relay. I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

rca is known for needing new solder jobs and mostly in the tuner area and power section
so it is most likely the the tuner section and probably the power section should get the new solder job done or the tv will start to have a life of its own!
I have a rca 27v412t that started the same stuff but I resoldered and it lasted about 7 months before I had to do it again
and if after that it don't recieve certain frequency's it may need a new IR sensor and possibly a crystal and EEPROM chip as well

Why does my RCA TV cycle through channels on its own?

this is the same type of problem happening with other rca models and I know it is the EPROM CHIP but why this is failing is either because of design flaw , dirty enviroment that they were made in , to much voltage or current to the chip or too much of a draw from the chip causing it to fail . Or even a random frequency from the IR sensor or its circut I'm still investigating and testing.
leave the tv unplugged for at least 3 weeks durring this time resolder any solder that don't look good , I did this and it lasted for about 6 months(always plugged in to the wall) before it started doing it again. model # 27v412t

TV turns on & off by itself. Channels also change by themselves.

Make sure your remote is totally away from the set.
Make sure the buttons on the set are not sticky
If both of those are ok, it's your E-Prom in the set. RCA's are notorious for this, not a major repair, maybe $75-100. The 8 leg e-rom is only about $6.00

RCA 27V412T

I repair these for a living and usually this is caused by the "tact switches" (buttons essentially) on the main pcb. This can be fixed easily by someone who is familiar with working with soldering small parts by changing the switches. The problem is most service shops must charge $60-$100 for bench time on a repair like this which is hard to spend with the replacement cost being so low on this product.
