Question about NEC 1560M-BK 15" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Open Question

1560M and 1760VM Monitor problems

Both LCD monitors, 1560M and 1760VM exhibit dark screens at turn-on and boot. Pressing RESET or one of the other adjust keys elicits a VERY FAINT proper response. 1. Have reseated both ends of connector cable. 2. Have tried various computers. 3. Monitors have been stored for ~ 6 months in working area that was between 45 degrees F and 75 degrees F. The main circuit breaker to the service line was OFF, the power-strips feeding units were OFF, and there were voltage protectors present. NO OTHER MALFUNCTIONS IN ASSOCIATED COMPUTERS OCCURRED. 4. The 1560M showed a similar failure a year after it was purchased, and NEC serviced it under warranty. 5. Both units are just beyond the three year limit. 1560M S/N 37117816GA 1760VM S/N 39911240TA Rev 1B

This is the common bad capacitor problem. The caps have died inside, and they can be replaced. If you have basic electronics skills, you can go in, order replacement caps, and unsolder and resolder. If you can't do it yourself, you can take it into a shop.

Here is a link to the Cap plague that explains what happens in detail. But I repair these all the time with that symptom.

Well, when i turn on the computer the monitor only flashes it alittle but then it like turns off, and it dosent leave the screen on?

I would first try booting from a boot disk or live cd to make sure it isn't a driver issue. If the problem persists, you may be looking at a damaged monitor. Take a flashlight, and gently hold it to the screen to see if the LCD portion is working. If the LCD is working, but the lamps are not then read on. The most common reasons for a monitor to fail like that are damaged caps, burned transformer, and/or burned bulbs. The control circuitry sends a burst of energy to the bulbs to light them, then backs off to user settings. Most monitors will sense if the bulbs didn't light, and try a couple more times before giving up. I'm in the process of working on one now that exhibits the same symptoms and after opening the thing up it needs three caps, a transformer, and a new set of bulbs. Best of luck.

Small dark rectangle on top of screen

From your description it sounds like some of the pixels, or at least some of the colors of those pixels, no longer work.

If there was an issue with the cable, the whole screen would be messed up. Videocards don't display symptoms like that either, it's either working, not, or VERY screwed up.

It is time for a new monitor, I'm sorry (or happy, depending on your outlook) to say.

It won't turn on -

hi there, it sounds like your monitor isn't receiving power, check the power cable in your monitor is connected and not partially unplugged. Second, if that doesn't work, try looking at your plug and make sure that is plugged in. If that doesn't work, you may have to buy a new monitor or give it to a friend that can repair it.

My ViewSonic computer monitor keeps displaying a Vga Not Support Message upon booting then the message Out Of Range comes up on a completely dark screen. Need Help

It sounds like the computer is trying to use a resolution that the monitor cannot handle. Boot into safe mode by pressing the f8 key during boot up and select safe mode. Once booted, right click on the desktop and select properties. In settings lower the resolution by moving the bar to the left and reboot.

I would move it all the way down, you can then move it up a step at a time once you are in normal mode again.

Hope this helps

AOC spectrum 7 Glr ?

Initially, I would suggest that you do a full reset, that is unplug the monitor from the mains and the PC for a couple of hours (preferably overnight). The idea is that the monitor will reset itself to default factory settings. Thereafter try again.

Should problem persist, pls post back.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SyncMaster 712N monitor problem

I've had a similar problem. I took apart the monitor (it was out of warranty by that time anyway) and found the lamps would not stay on. They'd flash for a split second before remaining unlit. I tried hooking up another LCD monitor's lamp to the Samsung, and even though I knew the other lamps worked fine, they exhibited the same behavior. Looks like something's wrong with the circuitry. The LCD actually does display the desktop on screen correctly. It's just the lamps refusing to stay on.
