Question about NetGear FS608 Networking Switch

Link led blinking

When i am connecting my beetel 220bx adsl modem to netgear switch with parallel cable which is 25 meter long then switch is showing link properly but when i am connecting pc to switch using same 25 meter long parallel ethernet wire than link led on switch is going blinking but the same wire is working fine with 10 mbps hub.also if i use 2 meter long parallel ethernet wire to connect my pc to netgear fs608 switch then it is showing propper link and working fine. i just want to know is there any problem with wire length that 2 mtr is working fine and 25 mtr is not working or is there a problem with my switch.i had also heard that to connect a switch to pc a rollover cable is used and also there is different colour coding for making 10 mbps and 100 mbps wire.if it is so then plz provide the right colour coding or satisfactory solution/advice.

WIRE AS U ARE USING WILL WORK FINE TILL 80- 85 METER. AND THERE IS DIFFERENT COLOR CODING EITHER U USE 10 METER OF WIRE OR 25 METER OF WIRE THERE IS A STANDARD COLOR CODE WHICH IS PROVIDED BY IEEE. I THINK THERE IS ANY PROBLEM IN YOUR SWITCH. IF YOUR WIRE IS OK AND PC ETHERNET CARD IS PERFECT THEN OBVIOUSLY ANY PROBLEM IS IN YOUR SWITCH. U CHECK IT PROPERLY EACH AND EVERY PORT. B'COZ SOMETIMES SOME PORTS PROBLEM CREATE HIS TYPE OF DISTRUCTION. GOOD LUCK PURUSHOTAM

I have two des-1005d network switches. i want to communicate betwwen them with a cat5e cable. the cable is made as cross through and distance is about 70 meters. with one switch pc is connected and at...

Max distance for Cat5e cable is about 100M, but that is the best case scenario, essentially a straight line, down a building. If you have any kind of interference, like flourescent lighting, high voltage lines running parallel to the ethernet cable, the distance will be much less than 100M. Although it looks like you have 60 feet to spare, anything interfering with the cables will cut the signal down. Try to move the switches closer together, make the cable from pc to switch longer and ADSL modem to switch longer and cable between switches shorter. Use a known good straight through ethernet cable, as modern switches don't require crossover cables.

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_5e#Maximum_cable_segment_length

According to the ANSI/TIA/EIA standard for category 5e cable, (TIA/EIA 568-5-A[5]) the maximum length for a cable segment is 100 meters (328 feet). If longer runs are required, the use of active hardware such as a repeater, or a switch, is necessary.[6] [7] This 100 meter limit is all inclusive. According to some authors,[who?] the practical limit for permanently installed cable is about 90 meters, leaving 5 meters at each end for the patch cables that connect the end equipment to the wall panel.

Hope this helps.

Blinking light on NetGear FS108

One LED is a Link light that will blink on activity.
The other shows link speed.
These boxes have AutoUplink negotiation so no crossover cables are required.
Test again with a standard straight though ethernet / CAT5 cable.

No internet when router plugged in

I assume your modem is a ADSL or cable modem.
I suggest you first connect your modem to a computer and check if you can connect to the Internet. If you cannot connect then check status of the LEDs on your modem. If you don't have LEDs indicating the PPP/ADSL, and LAN connection then you have an ISP connection problem.
If you can connect to the Internet then your problem is either the router configuration and or LAN configuration.

It's always smart to set a restore point in case something goes wrong during installation of any program. For wireless connection from laptop or PC: install router software on computer. Reboot computer. In browser address bar enter 192.168.1.1. This brings up a window for user name and password. Enter "admin" for both. This allows you to change many settings including Changing SSID(Router Name), User name and password. Enabling WEP or WPA security. Hope this Helps, Good Luck..!!
