Problems with Rubber Door Sill

The rubber sill around my door holds water and then the washer always smells sour. This washer has done this since I have had it. I purchased August 2006.

Re: Problems with Rubber Door Sill

I had a service person come out this week and he told me to leave the door open or get a top loader. I am returning it. The smell is horrible.

on all front loaders, the smell comes from not been used every day, #1, and water sit at the bottom of the drum, is always water in the system from the top of the drain hose to the pump, and they, the manufacture recommend that you use some chemical once per month to clean the unit.
this is what I do. get a bucket of water and bleach 3 water 1 part bleach, get a rug that you do not need any more. wet the rug and with your hand open the door and put the rug unter the rubber around the glass door, in other worth's, the rubber that connects the door to the drum bucket rinclos and water and other material stays there, building mildew, would be good to wear a globe, and clean the inside of these rubber real nice, go around several times to make sure you don't miss a spot., the cloth well come out black means it is loaded. then put the rest of the water and bleach in the machine, add 2 caps of bleach in the machine, fill it to hi and let it stay for 1 hour or more in the drum, then have a gentle cycle, these well clean the rest of the unit. one more thing, if you have members of the family that forget coins or papers in they pocket. may have to do more work to clean and drain the unit, just let me know I well help you.

you could look for a build up of muck- old soap powder etc around the main door rubber, there are places where the muck will collect. put your fingers right inside the door rubber as there are gaps that are hidden . this muck builds up and causes a horrible smell

Lg washer/ frontloader

Take a hand towel soaked in vinegar, then run it around the rubber seal around the front of the door, making sure you get all the way under. Then run a load of whites with javex or vinegar. Always leave the door ajar after you are done washing, or that mildew smell will re-appear.

Smell from washer ,have sanitized but comes back in a day or so.have cleaned filter and wiped the rubber sill around the door enterance.still has smell like cigeretts.

you have a old soap biuld up beteen your tubs and unless you clear that away it will keep comming back

i usually advise getting a box of dish detergent
not soap,,,, dry crystals,,, i cup in an empty load
the crystals were desinged for much hotter water so they woint dislove as rapidly,,, there by become lilltle scrub brushes fro your inner tub

this should help,,, but also cut back on your soap,
check a dry towel, put it in the sink and shakke it
this should help
have a great day

Mold and bacteria in your door seal is a symptom of problems deeper inside the unit. All washers - not just Whirlpool, have this problem. The area of worst buildup is always on the inside of the plastic outer tub just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this problem area add 1 or 2 caps of smelly washer cleaner to a full load of laundry. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the "splash area". Intermittently pause to soak more extreme cases.

Washing Machine smell

The problem comes from the design of the front load washers. There is always a little water left in the tub after the machine is used. Running a bleach load will deal with the mildew until the machine is used again. I leave the door open when I am not using my washer, and this does help.

Rubber Seal Holds Mold!

This is a problem that seems to show up on almost every front-loading washer due to the design of the rubber boot that attaches to the front of the machine. It is extremely important to wipe down the rubber after usage but even this doesn't always help. There are a couple of products out there that claim to get rid of the mold and smell, something called Purewasher that you could look up on and also something that whirlpool sells for this purpose.

this is a common problem with all front loaders. you need to manually clean the boot, rubber seal, with bleach and water but when done with that you need to put 1 1/2 cups of bleach in the soap dispeners, run a hot wash with no clothes after that run another rinse to be sure all the bleach is out of washer. inbetween washes, leave washer door open (best) or cracked if no room to leave it open
