i purchased a westel 6100 router from verizon. all connections are ok, and i am getting the green lights. my operating system is windows vista, and in no way it allows me to connect to the internet. my computer is a sony vista VGN-NR180E. the verizon tech is telling me that the problem is vith the Sony computer and the Sony tech is telling me that the problem is with Verizon. what shoul i do?
Hmm..the best way I can think of here is to get both Techs on the same line so that they can discuss what the problem really is. I've tried this before and I have to admit. Things worked out very well, It seems a device built in my laptop was not running properly, so I had to install it again, it's called the NIC or Network Interface Card and it's the device that allows your laptop to communicate with the modem.
Regarding the lights in your modem. The DSL light should always be Steady Green, that means that your modem is in Sync with the network. If it's blinking, check all connections, make sure every physical connection is connected properly, if the dsl light is still blinking, that's a network problem already and you should call Verizon so that they can send a tech to fix it.
Sometimes it's difficult to isolate the problem for an internet connection, but to make it clearer for you and anyone else with the same issue. The modem is the central part of the connection. It's a verizon problem if the problem is the connection of the modem to the central office, and you can check it with the DSL light and Internet light.
It can either be a Verizon Problem or a Modem to PC problem, if the problem is between the modem to the pc. Possible Scenarios here are: The modem is defective, the NIC is defective, the Ethernet Cable is defective.
The first is a verizon problem only if the modem is still covered by warranty, if the modem is qualified for a DSP or a Device Service Plan, then that's good, you don't need to buy a new modem anymore. The second and third issue is a physical problem with the devices already and you'll need to have your pc fixed.
Try and isolate the issue, and if you can, let me know and I'll let you know what you can do to fix your problem.

I recently re-formatted and re-installed windows on my pc. I have verizon dsl for my isp. The modem is a Westell 6100. The modem had to be reset. I called the isp and talked to a tech to get everything re-activated. I used a usb to lan converter to do what I had to do for the re-installation and the downloading of the modem software. and then hooked usb back up and it worked fine. I shut my computer down and the next day all of the sudden I have no internet connection. The usb light is no longer solid and I dont know what to do to stay connection to the internet without using the usb to lan converter. I thinking that it is something in the network connection settings that I have to tamper with but not real familiar with dsl modem connections. PLEASE HELP! PS. Not sure if it's a proline or litline-
