Question about Sony DAV-S888 System

1 Answer

Freezing and jumping when playing DVD's

I have owned a Sony DAV-S888 for several years now. The first 18 months of use were trouble free. It has now developed an annoying problem whereby when playing DVD's it will often, freeze, jump, jolt or even not play at all! sometimes even when the DVD being played is brand new, fresh out the packet as it were. On doing a little research i have found that this is a recurring problem with this system , and not one you'd expect from a reputuable name such as Sony. Is there a cost effective way of solving it? I've heard horror stories about new internal head units costing hundreds! Or is it simply time to buy a new cinema surround sound system... maybe not Sony! Any advice would appreciated. Regards James

Re: Freezing and jumping when playing DVD's

Did you try to clean laser lenses? Maybe it's just a dirt.

This is not what it means... What it means is that the reciever/speaker cables are very degraded and are taking too long to process or transmit information. Are your rear speakers very very long? If they are, this is a problem and you should get lower gauge wire. if you are using the tiny tiny wires sony provides, GAH, you are in troubles! At any rate, there SHOULD be an option in the recievers menu to sync this up. Toy with that and you should be in business... if not, let me know and we'll go from there...

Not reading all DVDs

This problem has been getting more and more of a popualar complaint and there is no real setr answer for it as I have found that when i see this happening theres an alighnment issue, a foggy lens, dirt or hair in the carrage assembly track or worm gear, and also a weak laser assy. Good Luck
