As a basic troubleshooting technique, technicians first determine if there is high voltage or not upon power up and if there is, if it is sustained high voltage. This basic test can be performed by putting your ear to the back cover of the unit and then turnng on the unit. If you hear a sweeping noise such as that of an air compressor shooting air through a nozzle, it means there is high voltage.
If there is high voltage it it important to determine if the high voltage collapses or not after power up.
