How do I extend the length of a line of text? Rather than hyphenate a word, I want to extend the margins. ken

Hi lerona - I have a 5600C series HP printer. You might try these tips:
Do a Print Preview to be sure the document looks right on your screen, then in Print Setup, down in the Zoom box check the Scale to Paper Size to be sure it isn't set for the wrong paper size. There's an arrow to scroll to the size you're printing on.
Then click Properties, then the Paper Quality tab. There's an item that says "minimize margins". You could try printing with the box checked (if it's not now), or unchecked (if it IS now) and see the difference. Click the Effects tab and be sure the "normal size" box says 100%, and that there's no check mark in the "borderless printing" box.
I print documents all the time, as well as photos, smaller sized items, cards, etc., and have had no trouble with the margins printing differently than my Print Preview shows on my screen. I hope these tips help you. Good luck, and feel free to email me if you have any success with my suggestions.

Sounds like it's a transfer belt and not a drum you are refering too. Each toner cartridge mose likely has a drum built into it. If the lines are only in one color it may be that toner that is bad. But most likely it's the transfer belt, often called an ITU (Image Transfer Unit) or ETB (Electrostatic Transfer Belt). They sometimes get contaminated with dust, oils from fingers, etc... and can't be cleaned, would need to be replaced.

Have you tried a new toner and drum unit? if not please do so. If that doesn't work then it is a scanner lamp failure and will need replacing.
You can fix it but trying to obtain this part for such an old machine will be hard. Don't know the part number sorry.
Thanks J

Margins are set in the software application, not in the printer settings. For example, in Microsoft Word, Excel, or Wordpad, margin settings are found under File/Page Setup.
