The most likely place for an engine to start leaking oil (when it's coming from the top and not the bottom) is around the valve covers -- the gasket goes bad. Next most likely is camshaft seals.

Sometimes just tightening the valve cover botls will stop it or at least reduce it.

Oil leaks on my jeep grand cherokee 2000

Most common are valve cover gaskets worn out...especially the inline 6 cylinder...inspect the oil pressure sending unit located beside the oil filter...these are the most common and least costly fixes...Hope this helps.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L, oil leak ontop of engine, around and infront of oil fill hole.

Gasket/O-ring bad on the oil fill cap. The fan is throwing it around where you've found the excess.

Need to know the plugwire placement in 1994 Jeep Cherokee

That vehicle came with three different engine options for that year, there was a 2.5 liter inline 4 cylinder engine, a 4.0 liter inline 6 cylinder engine, or a 5.2 liter V-8 engine. Here are the firing order diagrams for all three engines and one of them should help you to solve your problem.

1996 grand jeep Cherokee leaks oil real bad do i need a new engine

If the engine itself runs well then possibly no you don't need a new one.
What you need to do is determine exactly where the leaks are though.
most leaks are not terribly difficult to repair. The only one that is difficult would be the rear main crank seal but even a leak there will often respond to a good chemical treatment like lucas engine sealer (will not harm internals). One item to definitely look at is the vent orifice (or pcv valve if you have one...also the vent "can" on v8 engines) on the valve cover though. If that is obstructed excessive pressure will build up inside the engine that can and will drive oil past even a good seal. Also check the oil pressure sending unit. many times they can leak and when they do, they usually leak a lot.
If you have a plug fouling problem or lots of bluish smoke from the tailpipe, correcting leaks will help but will not cure the problem. That comes from worn rings or cylinder bores and does require rebuild or replacement..

Oil leak from rear main seal 92 jeep cheeroke

remove transmission, remove flywheel, pry old seal out with seal remove or a screwdriver careful not to damage the block or crank. Clean surface with carberater cleaner or brake cleaner. Tap ne seal in with flat end of ball ping hammer. Put transmission back in.

High idle

first look for vacuum leaks around the manifold you could have easily misseated the intake or cracked it if you improperly tightened it

I have a 95 grand cherokee. i just parked the car and realized that there was water and oil leaking rapidly from it. The temperature increased to 120. Also, i opened the engine oil cap and saw the oil...

If the engine oil appeared to be boiling, it has either water (coolant) mixed with it or the temperature was far higher than 120 regardless of whether it was Fahrenheit or Celsius; oil does not boil at 120 degrees of either one of those.
> opened the engine oil cap
You didn't specify which engine you have but can we assume it is the inline 6? Then the 'oil cap' would be atop the valve cover? This is definitely no place to find anything boiling.
You may have had a catastrophic failure of a head gasket. It would have to be an unusual failure to allow both oil and water to be lost since the head gasket doesn't normally fail that quickly in several places necessary to lose both coolant and oil.
There may be another explanation but it would be tough to determine without having the vehicle present.

1997 jeep cherokee country 2wd 6 cylinder 150k miles

An old, unanswered request - if you have found the problem, tell us the results and it will be in the database for others.
No idea on the speedometer problem but if you are adding coolant too often and haven't found the leak, you may have a blown headgasket. Check your oil for any sign of water contamination; it will cause the oil in severe cases to look like hand lotion. Check your coolant reservoir for any odor of exhaust fumes. Checking your plugs for any signs of rust is also a good idea.
Keep a close eye on your water temperature until you find the leak because if there is a path between the coolant passages and a cylinder, it will blow hot gases into the water without any sign of the engine missing or misfiring (at first) while running and will **** coolant into a cylinder when the engine is off and it cools down.

`1992 jeep cherokee lorado straight inline 6 oil leaking from the where the oil filter attaches to the motor

I'm fairly certain that the parts stores carry the oil filter adapter gasket. Check around for it and make sure both surfaces are very clean. I like to use a FILM of sealant on both sides of the gasket and install. The reason why you use the sealant is to compensate for any irregulatities of both surfaces. You also might want to install a new oil pressure sending unit to the adapter while you have it off. That is another place where you could have a leak. They like to wear out prematurely also.
