Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-24FS100 24" TV On/Off problems

Several people seem to have this problem. Mine is the same: "standby light" blinking when tv is off and it takes several tries to get tv to power on. Today it took about 20 tries to turn tv on. Help!! I'm no techie so please keep in mind us simple folks.

the TV does not go on but the standby light (timer) blinks ... still TV won't go on. Solutions? thanks

Same type of problem as previous, clicking on "power" only gets "standby/on" light to flash green for about 30 seconds, then turns back to red (timer), and screen never turns on. Any tips other than loose lightbulb? I know that's not the problem. Ours is 42 inch Sony Wega LCD, more recent model.

When I switched the TV on it made the usual sound which usually indicates that it is working but the standby light just flashed on and off and nothing else happened - no picture and no sound.

I changed the batteries in the remote thinking they needed replacing, but that wasn't the problem.

I then unplugged the TV at the outlet and manually switched it on but with the same result - the standby light just flashed on and off.

Can anyone suggest anything else to try or is it a case of getting it repaired or replaced? I certainly don't want the expense of either as this TV is only about 4 years old! This is the last thing I would have expected from a Sony product!

Same problem. Sometimes the TV won't come on at all and the green light just immediately turns red. Once in awhile trying repeatedly will eventually turn it on; often not. Other times it comes on for just a few minutes and goes off. Then it won't come on again. The problem started a few weeks ago and is getting progressively worse. (This is also a 3-year-old, 42 inch model)

The tv is, there is sound but the tv is black - there is no picture. The red light continues to blink where it says "stand by timer". We do not have the original controller, only a universal. Tried turning the TV on and off and that did not work. Tried unplugging TV that did not work. Can you tell us how to fix this problem please.

same same -- plug in tv standby blinks @ 12-14 times then repeats 5 blink cycle repeatedly. there is a posted video on youtube of the issue here:

Have seen other posts that indicate EEPROM error or white balance issue, fixable or junk it? How much might various issues cost?

This is the first time I have seen the "lamp cover" solution - can anyone post a pic of what this is or describe where its located?

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with
troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you purchased an extended service plan they will repair the TV at no charge as well.

If the TV is no longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and labor. This is assuming that you only need one
circuit board or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards, the price of repair could go much higher.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

The blinking standby light should be in a repeating pattern of a fixed count of blinks. Please post that count here as that will indicate the circuit in which a problem was detected. Armed with that info, we can then tell you the problem and probable solution.

Seven Blinks: High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into shutdown. Check power supply and horizontal circuits.
