Whenever i leave my car parked overnight and then go turn it on in the morning. The RPM is always hovering between 1300-1200RPM. So i wait for it to drop below 1000 and when it does i can feel the car shake from underneath. Also when the i open the hood, while waiting for the RPM to drop, the noise that my engine makes sounds like someone is knocking on metal or something and then dies down after the RPM drops but still can hear the knocking noise. Any things? here is a youtube video of the engine sound. http://youtu.be/6DYu3CFlO68

My strong guess without looking at it would be a cracked exhaust manifold, when it gets hot the metal expands an it doesn't leak.

Sounds to me like a very common problem has occured to your neighbor. If this is a SOHC engine, one of the valve seats in the number 4 cylinder has fallen out. I'm sure it has damaged the head and the piston. Stop trying to run it or you might blow a hole in the cylinder wall or break a rod or both.

This is not normal the FSI engine does run louder then normal last year mine became even louder and developed a rough idle enough where it shakes then took my car to the dealer they pre formed a fuel pressure switch recall and also secondary throttle body manifold recall 3 months later my wastegate actuator rod broke in half the dealer wanted 1600 dollars to replace the turbo and wastegate I fixed the problem myself almost 8 months later of driving without my turbo once the ride was replaced the car ran fine for 7 months once the cold weather started same symptoms re occurred
