Ensure that there is no disc in the tray,

Using the remote:

1, Press the “0” button 5 times at approximately one second intervals.

2, Press the “Instant replay” button.

3, Press the following sequence of numbers very quicly (less than one second
intervals) :

If your player is a Region 1 machine, the sequence of numbers to press is 2,
9, 3, 3, 4 and 9 :
If your player is a Region 2 machine, the sequence of numbers to press is 5,
7, 5, 3, 8 and 9 :
If your player is a Region 3 machine, the sequence of numbers to press is 5,
6, 7, 3, 2 and 9 :
If your player is a Region 4 machine, the sequence of numbers to press is 5,
6, 8, 8, 4 and 9 :
If your player is a Region 5 machine, the sequence of numbers to press is 5,
3, 8, 1, 4 and 9 :
If your player is a Region 6 machine, the sequence of numbers to press is 2,
4, 4, 6, 2 and 9 :

4, Open and then close the tray.

Got the same problem today. I found the solution online on the installation guide. You need to push the two channel changing buttons on the recorder at the same time for 3 seconds.
