We would be watching tv as normal, but when the screen shows a white flash/screen (e.g like an action scene where theres gunfire, explosion or some kind of flash) the tv switches off for a couple of seconds then comes back on.
It will be most likely that the board needs reworking because of dry joints somewhere, and to complement what bernardlunda has said, I have seen it too many times before myself where the customer has left it and popped the power supply too. cheaper for you to get it sorted now.
Dont waste time, because your tv can indicate immediately at a w/ shop for a fault, and it will be easy for a tech.
if you wait the tv will burn more components and it will be expensive for you. and difficult for a tech.

No self-fix tricks I can do myself? If not, can you give a ballpark figure what repair might cost. I am in NZ.
