BT Voyager 2091 Wireless ADSL Router - DROP OUT

I have a MacG5 running OSX 10.4.10 and USED TO connect to Pipex broadband using a Speedtouch USB modem. My daughter recently got an iMac (Intel Processor) and I changed the SpeedTouch modem for the BT Voyager so that we could share the connection. I now connect via Ethernet directly from the local router whilst my daughter uses the inbuilt wireless (Airport) capability of her iMac. My son also joined in with an old PC with Win2000 and an external USB wireless connection. The good news is that it all worked out of the box and gives acceptable, but not great (500 to 800 kb/sec), performance. The BAD news is that since the introduction of the BT Router the ADSL connection keeps dropping out, I believe during times of inactivity requiring either the router or my G5 to have to be restarted. My Mac NEVER crashes irrestpective of what I might get up to. I had no DROP OUT problem with the SpeedTouch modem which was supplied by Pipex. Pipex technical support has been non existant.....After 30 mins hold etc I get answers like Turn Modem Off and try again! despite my stating that I have already explored such opportunities. I suspect that the issue lies somewhere in the Ethernet connection which was not used for the SpeedTouch installation. I would connect by wireless also if I had an Airport card but I don't. Are there any "Advanced" settings in Ethernet setup that should be set in order to maintain connection. Maybe the Ethernet goes to sleep when the G5 processor goes to sleep after X mins inactivity? Haven't actually tried turning "Sleep" off. Q1. What do you EXPERTS think the route cause of my problem might be? Q2. How do I get the router diagnostics to be activated / displayed on my Mac?

Thanks for reply although much water has gone under the bridge..

Yes I did all the above and finally had a "brainwave". I put the old router back and guess what... no drop outs.
Problem is something to do with the specific BT Router. BT were no help but I now know much more than I used to from having to do it all myself. Pipex agreed that I was getting drop outs and went for the house extention / filters / other telephone equipment.
Some what surprisingly PCWorld accepted my problem and gave me my money back despite the Router being > 1 year old. Bought new Belkin Router (twice the price of the BT!) and hey presto no problems whatsoever.
I suspect that there was a component problem e.g. capacitor in the router that was intermittently faulty (heat?)

Bottom line. Score. BT Nil : PCWorld 2.

I have Airlink 11n router with same problem. Only specific Websites cannot be accessed. I have an old speedtouch modem. If I connect directly to modem, no dropouts. Airlink claims this cannot happen with their modem.

If you face frequent drop outs confirm with your isp that it's not a problem with line...and also check the physical setup of broadband check if your router is connected to main socket of your house where telephone line enters in your house......
now when you face drop outs check on your hard wired comp whether you remain connected or not if no its a problem with line..
if no reconfig your bt router for wireless network change the channel of your wireless network either to 1 or 11...
or either there is one other way reset your router to default settings by pressing the pin at the back of your router..
and after that your router will start its default wireless network i.e a unsecure network..
try connecting to that network if still the same there are drop outs it's a problem with bt to config the router...

Sky Broadband Wireless ADSL Sagem Router Errors with Screendumps

Generally speaking if your @ light on the front of your router is not lit then your telephone line is not enabled for ADSL however you will still be able to goto and check this is an example of the screen display

ERROR : Return Code 100

This also can happen if the twisted pair copper wire that is used to send the signal into your router has been disconnected or there is a short outside your house.

NOTE: That even if BT reconnect and complete a silent line test on your telephone line from your house from the Master Test socket behind your faceplate this doesn't mean that you will have a Broadband Signal from your ISP.

Under normal operation you should see the following screen click show statistics, this line is connected at 3.3MB

The conclusion will be as obvious to you as to many other users.
