Question about Dell 1703FPs 17" TFT LCD Flat Panel Monitor

Black Screen I have a Dell 1703FPs that just went black and won't come back. When I power the montitor off and then on again the screen comes up perfect for a split second then goes black again. Any ideas, this monitor is about 4 years old.

No, this is typical problem for defective inverter. Mostly screen appears for some seconds and then turn to black. If you are technician, you can use this link :-).

I repair a lot of LCD monitors and this (bad inverter) is the most typical problem. Course if you can't do the repair yourself you really have to weigh the cost of repair vs buying new...you can get a really good deal on a new monitor if you take the time and shop around. Prices are dropping.

Hi, Try this. Disconnect the cable that goes into the computer tower. connect the power cable from the monitor to the wall outlet. it should have a display of monitor self test where different color bars are displayed. if it still does the samething or if it doesnt show up the color bars you're gonna need a replacement monitor.

I have a dell LCD model no 1703FPs monitor, whenever i power the screen its displays for about 4secs and turns black while the light indicator remains green indicating a video signal.
You may have bad backlight inverter board (shorted transistors, transformers, need test lamp to verify), or worst case the lamps assembly (need lamp tester to verify).
You can check and see if the power supply is putting out the 12vdc for the inverter board first and go from there.

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). sad to say your monitor has an electronic problem inside that need service, maybe the ccfl lamp went out already..

Check when you boot the system is there any display coming and when Operating system boots you get any Balck screen if it comes then there is a issue with the Graphics card in the system.

i think if you can service your monitor please see all the filter capacitor i think capacitors leak and need for replacement.

Video problem on my Dell Dimension 4600 PC, HELP ASAP.
the resolution set by default when you load your graphics driver is outside the range of your monitors capability.

try starting in safe mode then adjust your resolution to 640 by 480 then restart.
if this works, adjust upwards to 1024 by 768
then up again till the screen blanks.
when it does, dont panic, wait 20 seconds and the settings will restore - you then have the optimum settings for your monitor.

Monitor displays properly then screen goes blank
it seems tht the monitor has gone bad & needs to be replaced....try running a monitor self test by unplugging the monitor cable frm the back of the cmputer & make sure the monitor is receving power frm the wall outlet....chk if the monitor displays anything......let me knw if it wrks

Try pressing the 3rd button, as it toggles the Analog or Digital inputs...

Can't get monitor out of save power mode Dell SE178WFP monitor. I hooked up this monitor as directed and it has a message that says it is going into save power mode. When I touch the menu screen on the monitor it says to touch any key on the keyboard or move the mouse. Nothing happens when I do this. It just remains in save power mode.
