Maxtor One Touch 4 plus 1 terabyte external hard drive would need a 12 volt 2 amp power adapter with a positive inside tip.
That is if yours is the same model.

Best is to take it to the shop you bought it from. they will replace it. ask them to transfer the data to the new one. the chances are they might do it.

SOURCE: Restore factory settings on maxtor basics external storage 1000gb

What do you mean by factory settings. From the factory, the drive came just formatted with no data on it. If you want that then format the drive in WIndows. My Computer->Select the drive that is Maxtor, right click it and in the box that opens format is one of the options. Select and follow instructions.

Alot of times with the drive letter is not assigned this means that another device is already assigned to the drive letter that the drive wants to take.

The below link will take you through changing your drive letter on your Maxtor drive.

My Maxtor 1000GB harddrive has stoped working. PN:9NZ2D8-500. SN:2HBECHWY. It connects by a USB and powed by a transformer that was supplied by Maxtor. All of the parts are about two years old, brough

I replace my hard drives after 2 or 3 years. Yours seems to have quit early, possibly the transformer is not working. If your external drive lights up, the electronics could be bad. At any rate, the bad news is it sounds like time for a new drive. I hope you have a backup of the contents.

My maxtor 1000GB external hard drive isn't visible on my desktop anymore. Everything is on it so please help!

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

Maxtor basics desktop storage 1000gb wont start up but has power

im sorry, but it sounds like a hardware problem. theirs not many options.
you may either void your warranty by opening it up and hoping you can use the hard drive in another case (hope its not the hard drive)
or you can return it under the warranty. That is a bummer.

The terrabyte hard drives havent been completley worked out yet. i have heard of a bunch of problems with them failing because of how they are made. The scary part is i dont think they fixed all the problems with the 1tb drives and now they are moving onto 2 tb's!?!?!?

Drivers for Maxtor Peripherals

These USB external drives doesn't need any drivers at all if you have windows 2000/xp/vista, I suggest you to try some other USB ports if the one you tried doesn't work. Or if you are using an USB hub than try it out without it, and maybe a different or shorter cable could be the solution if it's still not good. If after all this the drive is still wrong try it out on a different PC and see what'll happen.
