Get the following error message: Scanner Failure Power off then on again. I have done that but it keeps accouring,

it is possible that the scanner has been locked. look for a twisting button with a lock-symbol next to it and make sure it's in the unlocked position. if this is done, restart the printer. if the problem is still there, the printer may have to be repaired in an authorised repair centre.

Get the following error message: Scanner Failure

It means that the printer is having problems powering the scanner, either the light source is not working or the belt drive or gears are jammed. It is a self diagnosis that is not passing. That is the reason for your problem.

Hp officejet d145 carriage error & scanner failure

Re carriage error - suggest cleaning the encoder strip. this is the plastic strip running parallel to the drive belt but about 1 inch above it. They frequently become covered with ink spray and so are impossble to read by the carriage position detector.

Only use cold water and be very gentle. also make sure you dry the strip thoroughly before switching the machine back on.

Re scanner problem 2 possibilities.
(1) make sure printer power cable is connected directly into wall socket not through an extension cable. This can reduce the voltage getting through to the scanner lamp.

(2) if that don,t work then I suggest you take the scanner apart and clean the reference strip. this is a white bar on the scanner glass which tells the machine what the light level is. This can be a bit tricky so if you've never done it before consult someone who has or get back in touch with me. HP don't want you to do this but it sometimes works.

Scanner failure

All over the web the concensus seems to be disassembly and cleaning bulb, mirros and/or the glass and a calibration strip. Mine has the same error, and I'm gonna try the cleaning those locations. This forum mentioned a disassembly procedure for the D145, I hope it's the same for the 7100 series (7140XI) I'll post back my success.

HP OfficeJet D145 unable to print or scan

It could be the bulb. Sometimes disassembling the scanner and thoroughly cleaning the glass and mirror will help.
