Re: Disable taskbar

- I think you want to 'hide' the task bar? Move the mouse over the top edge of the taskbar until the cursor changes into an up and down shape you can then drag it down so it cannot be seen. Another way - in the taskbar properties you can tick 'auto hide the task bar' so it pops up and down out of view by itself. Please rate me 'thanks for trying' or better, and comment again with more information if this is not the solution you wanted. I might not have understood your problem properly.

How do i stop the automatic updates

There should be a place to disable it. For Windows updates in XP, go to control panel, Automatic updates, and turn it off there. It can also be disabled in IE. For HP updates, there has to be an icon on the taskbar (I would think), or perhaps under "Programs" you'll find an HP support program that will allow you to disable updates. Personally, I would not disable most updates. I can agree... I hate the IE add-ons and taskbars that just take up space. Give me simple... cut the glitz and hype. However, the security updates are important. I would select a time to update when I am not using the computer. For a browser, I prefer Google Chrome. It is simple, but very flexible... thinks more like me. If Windows is user friendly, I am NOT a user! I hope this helps.

No sound

Go to this site, it will tell you how to enable sound or disable sound
If that doesn't work, try this method it contains a program where you can check all the drivers on your computer.
If that doesn't work, but it should, go to the following site to download the driver needed for sound
Hope one of these does the trick. Let me know.

No Taskbar

The taskbar is always running in Windows Vista. Unlike Windows XP, it can't be unlocked and hidden unless the 'auto-hide' feature is turned on. If 'auto-hide' is on, simply run your cursor along the bottom edge of the screen and the taskbar should pop-up.

To disable auto-hide, after moving your cursor to bring up the taskbar, right click the taskbar and click properties. Then under the Taskbar tab, uncheck auto-hide.

If auto-hide is off, it may indicate that explorer.exe is not running/has crashed. In order to restart explorer.exe you can either
1) Restart
2) Press CTRL+Shift+Escape, File -> New Task and then type in explorer.exe and run

Taskbar operations

I think you mean the system tray (the area of the task bar near the clock), which shows program that run automatically when the PC starts. It is important to have as few of them as possible. Click on Start, then Run and type msconfig. This will start the configuration editor. Click on the tab that says Startup. Sometimes it is quicker to to click the disable all button, but I would suggest leaving anything to do with your anti-virus ticked and any applications you use all the time and don't want to start yourself. There is a list and better instructions at
