This problem is commonly attributed to a defective hot water solenoid on the water inlet valve (also known as a "mixing valve"). This is a fairly simple repair that can easily be accomplished without the assistance of a repairman. Depending upon whether the washer is a TOP LOADER or a FRONT LOADER, the replacement procedures differ slightly. The following link explains how to replace the valve on a TOP LOADER:

To replace the water inlet valve on a FRONT LOADER, follow these steps:
1. UNPLUG the washer.
2. Turn off the water source and disconnect the fill hoses from the back of the washer.
3. With the top panel removed, disconnect the dispenser hose(s) and electrical connections to the valve.
4. Remove any mounting screws holding the valve in place and reinstall with a replacement valve.
