Question about Ricoh Aficio AP3800C DT1 Laser Printer

Fuser won't adjust

Thank you for reading this and helping me out. I just replaced the fuser on my printer (because I screwed up the old one with ink jet paper). The LED readout says to adjust the fuser using the maintenance selection in the menu. When I hit enter for the fuser adjustment I get "Cannot adjust see user's guide". The manual tells me to do to do an "auto adjust". I do this and the auto adjust stops and says "failed". The user's guide say if you get this to: "Press {Enter #} to return to ?Maintenance?, and then repeat the steps from B." and retry the auto adjust. I did this many times but the auto adjust still fails. Just for kicks, I did a manual adjust which worked okay, but after it was complete the LED then reads again "adjust fuser in maintenance menu". The printer appears to be printing okay based on the results of theconfiguration page printing and color registration printer, so is it possible to override and clear my current error and need to perform a fuser adjustment . . . or am I missing a step? Thank you again for your help, AL

Yes, But I've been wondering . . . what if the bypass isn't working (I've never used it before). I don't hear the printer trying to pull anything from the bypass. ????

  • alfrenzel Oct 01, 2007

Here's an update: The bypass does work. In fact, the printer is accepting and printing files. But I'd still like to get rid of the blinking red error light and the error message asking me to adjust the fuser.

  • alfrenzel Oct 01, 2007

I have the manual on CD, but thanks anyways. I went through all the steps again for about the tenth time with no progress.

  • alfrenzel Oct 02, 2007

    Still stumped.

  • alfrenzel Oct 02, 2007

I couldn't find any help in the service manual and I went through all of the service menu options available. The service manual referred me to "Maintenance Guide #1" for adjusting the fusing unit, which is the maintenance manual I have, I think (there's no #1 on it).

I think this is something quirky that only a ricoh/lanier printer tech might be able to solve????

Measure the resistance between the fuser connectors. If it is not within the proper range, replace the fuser. If there is not continuity between the fuser connectors neutral and hot with the fuser removed, replace the fuser. If the problem is not related to the fuser, replace the engine controller board.

Just checking something.. Did you use the A3 sheet supplied with the fusing unit and load it in the bypass tray?

I've never worked on this printer before so it's hard to be sure.

    I've been looking at this:-

Apologies if you already have the document but if you dont then perhaps you'll see some new hints.

This printer looks like a seriously impressive machine.
There seems to be a myriad of settings to tweak in the service menus.

I think if you really want to do this machine justice then, as you suggest, get the proper tech in.

Good luck and come back to say what the fault was.

It quite sure what you've done. But .... Looking at your photo, you have a page stuck in the fuser. ( you could see that I'm sure) remove the fuser and check the sensor flags. If you have an. Old fuser unit you could use that as a guide.
Good luck.

How do I replace Fuser Part RM10865000CN.It is a Roller with some kind of plastic film on it.Not sure how to remove old part.

The fuser part is a fuser assembly. I think you can remove the assembly which is not much difficult. Remove the screws, connectors. You have to remove the tight springsor any other screws holding the metal L plate,. Remove the roller then the fuser. Remove the lockable end cap of the fuser at the other end where there are no heater wires. Remove the fuser film (which you called plastic film). Replace it with new one. Normally it is required to be replaced if it is torn or have holes caused by foreign materials or the life is over. If you are still unable to do it, write me back.

Hi there, i have an hp 3500 printer. the fuser was ript appart and needed replacment.(the rol was broken on one side and was not burning the inkt on the paper anymore) i have got a new one, but keep...

50.9 error - Fuser Failure (Abnormally High
Temperature Sub Thermistor)
1. The connector between the fuser and
the printer is not connected properly.
Reseat the fuser. Check the connector J5013
between the fuser and the printer. Replace it
if damaged.
2. Short in the sub thermistor. Turn the
printer off and remove the fuser. Measure the
resistance between the fuser connectors
J5013LA-4 (SUBTH) and J5013LA-3
(+3.3V). If it reads 600 ohms or below (at
ambient temperature), replace the fuser.
3. Faulty DC controller PCB, replace the
DC controller PCB.

I think you've some problems on the connectors, check the connections.
If you are able, replace the broken fuser roller from the old fuser with one from the new fuser.

I am getting an E000 message and there is nothing in the manual about this. Please help.

This is a fuser error you need to replace the fuser. you need to remove the covers on the left side. Then look under the black plastic sheet. You will see the fuser. You need a very short No 2 phlips head screw driver like 1 inch long. remove the screws and un-plug it. It will slip out. Get a new fuser and install. Thank you, Steven

Hp 4m shows service error 50

The service 50 error indicates a bad fuser assembly. You can get one on Ebay for less than $50. To replace the fuser just open the door on the back of the printer, inside you will see the fuser, unscrew the 2 screws and pull the old one out. Insert the new fuser and screw it down, power on the printer and you should be good to go.

I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.

Big noise

If the printer was not making the noise before you replaced the fuser unit I would try the following:

1. remove and re-seat the new fuser unit and try a test print.

2. if it still makes noise, remove the new fuser unit and replace the old fuser unit and try a test print. (if you waited untill the printer refused to print on the old fuser this might not work).

If you don't get the noise with the old fuser, then it's possible that the new fuser is defective. You could try returning it for replacement at this point. If you still get the noise with the old fuser, then possibly it is not seated correctly or the latches aren't locked or there is some other unrelated issue.

Over heat messege

Chances are that you are looking for your printer FUSER, not a fuse. The fuser is the rolling element that bonds (via heat) the plastic charged toner particles to your paper. It is located in the rear of the printer. Unplug, remove four screws that secure the back of the printer. Once removed, you will see a circuit board and the fuser. The fuser has two sets of wires (one on each side) that should be unplugged with your hands. Remove the four screws that keep the fuser module in place and replace that module (call Dell parts for replacement).
