Go into the menu and check your Sounds/Ringtones. If they are still present, all you need do is personalise the message alert. If they are absent, you will need to download the tones to your phone...one of the perils of unlocking!
I still think that it's probably just a selection matter: the need to choose Tone AND Vibrate (Menu 9.4.3), but it sounds as if you've tried that.
Sadly, then, the only advice I can give is for you to take your phone back to the shop and ask them why your alert tones have vanished.

U will go to 1- menu / 2-settings / 3- profiles /
4- select / 5- options / 6 -edit / 7- Message Alert tone/
8- select ant tone / but if u wanna select Dedicated tone u will select special tone and select change and select ant tone you want. enjoy with your mobile and nice mob
Press and hold the # button until it tells you its on normal mode. If this still doesnt work go into settings, profile settings, then i think it will be general and change the ring/message tone as it must be on off..if that makes sense. hope i helped.

Go to menu,Go to settings,Go to sounds settings,Go to alert sounds,now pick the alert you want to get a tone for. It should ask if you want tone or vibrate, hit tone and scrollt o the tone you want to assign to it. Hope this helps.

no nothing works, only vibrate on messages,,,,, all the ringtones work & i can change them
i downloaded a copy of the manuel. & i had it unlocked at a proper phone shop.....
