I have a fairly new (3 months) Edgestar countertop dishwasher. It has started making a very loud grinding- type noise when the spray arm is operating. It also is now leaking slightly from the bottom of the unit. Thank you in advance for any advice.

SOURCE: High pitched whining noise from bottom of dishwasher

the arms are only turned by water coming out of them thro angled jets, they are not electrically driven. the noise will be coming from the circulating pump, probably one of the bearings. no cure except to replace

SOURCE: Kenmore Ultrawash Quiet Guard 5 making buzzing/grinding noise

I have a very similar dishwasher, with a very similar problem. I fixed it by removing debris from the water evacuator pump located towards the front of the bottom of the machine (the last motor before the drain hose. In my case, grape stems had clogged it up. Once emptied, it purrs once again. NOTE: don't disassemble the motor, just flush it out, there is an o-ring gasket that is a bear to re-install.

SOURCE: Grinding noise from my GE Quiet Power 1 dishwasher

Solution #2 by user dwdamron is accurate. I checked the docking nozzle and sure enough the o-ring was gone. replaced the upper wash supply tube with new o-ring and problem was fixed.

Loud sounds

Many Frigidaire dishwashers come with the promise of being the "quietest dishwasher in its class," according to Frigidaire. However, a quiet dishwasher doesn't necessarily mean that the dishwasher is silent, as some noises are normal. It can take some troubleshooting at times to determine if a noise coming from the dishwasher is typical or if it indicates a larger problem Listen for the sound of water filling and draining throughout the wash cycle. These sounds are normal and do not indicate an issue.

  • 2 Pay attention to the drain motor, which operates at the beginning of each cycle. This noise should be fairly quiet and should not sound like a loud, grinding or banging sound.
  • 3 Note that the sound will change when the wash cycle moves between the lower and middle spray arms. This sound should be temporary and fairly quiet.
  • 4 Look for hard items in the dishwasher grinder or filter if a loud crunching, buzzing or grinding sound is heard. The dishwasher can typically grind up these items within one or two cycles, but the item may be lifted out and discarded to eliminate the sound.
  • 5 Remove the bottom rack and spray arms from the bottom of the dishwasher if there is a loud noise coming from the dishwasher that does not resolve itself. Look inside for the impeller, which is round and spins. Remove any debris that may be clogging up the impeller or pump.

The dishwasher is starting to make a loud grinding noise. Could it be the pump or the arms not spinning? It has always made a lot of noise, but is now getting much more louder.

I have a Fisher/Paykel dual drawer dishwasher and the top drawer now makes a loud grinding noise - appears to be coming from the front of the unit. Any thoughts? Any home-based solutions?

Remove dish rack, spray arm, remove filters, remove the rotor (under the spray arm) Check if the rotor itself is making any sound or not rotating freely when you turn the impeller on the top. Replace if needed, otherwise - carefully check for debris.

GE Dishwasher makes loud banging noise

Check the stainless steel cover on the bottom of the lower rack sprayer. If it has been bent downward on either end, it will hit the inside panel of the door near the bottom. It may score the panel as it hits on each rotation of the sprayer.

Just bend it back in position, carefully, with a pair of pliers. The technique required is similar to bending the pocket clip of a fountain pen back into the proper position after it has been sprung out too far. You might practice on a pen or mechanical pencil clip to see what I mean.

    Dishwasher making loud humming noise

The most common cause of the hum/grinding sound, and often poor cleaning - is a blocked filter or debris stuck below that filter.
Pretty easy fix: Get a phillips screwdriver near by. Pull out the lower rack (the upper rack can come out if you pull the little gray thingeys on the front of the upper rails.)
Remove the lower spray arm -- just pull it straight up. Remove nine silver screws from the sump area that holds the filter down. Pull the filter up and out. Rinse the filter as best you can.
While the filter removed, with a flash light inspect all over the sump area - looking for stuff that should not be there and clean it out. Watch out for broken glass!
Replace the filter, screws and the spray arm. Fire it up and check your results!
    Good Luck!

    GE Adorda dishwasher

This one is a known issue and an easy fix. Use a tie wrap to securely tie the water tube for the middle spray to the upper basket. That's it. Believe it or not, it's that simple. You may want to secure it at the front and the back. To test this you can use the tie wraps used to closed the plastic grocery or bread bags. If this solves the problem you can buy a bag of nylon tie wraps from any hardware store. I had a similar problem with another GE model with a similar problem. The dishwahser used to make a horrible grinding noise during the wash cycle. One I secured the middle sprayer arm the grinding noise went away.
