Re: Media recognition

Wonder if you could expand on the problem a bit (dont rate me yet). Is the disc being ejected straight away? Have you tried burning some data to it? What software are you using to burn (if any). Please give any other information including all the things you have tried.

Re: Media recognition

Assuming you have used this make of media before and tried other discs incase you have a bad batch, it could be that your drives laser itself is starting to fail when reading certain media, although it may still be able to read cd's and DVD it may fail with CDR and/or DVD-RW discs.

Sony CD / DVD DRU-510A. Reads CD's and DVD's, burns CD's, but will not recognize blank DVD's. Sony support page states: 4X DVD-RW Media Compatibility Notice Please Note: 4X DVD-RW media is not...

Well a quick check here says it should manage 4 x DVD write speeds:-

The only thing I can think of is that lens may have some dust on it, try a CD lens cleaning disk or a blast of air from an aerosol spray can.

After this, I'm afraid its down a replacement.

Hi rodger744, to have the "DVD Burner" recognize!
Do the following:
  • On the "Desktop Screen, {right click} to open the Computer."
  • Select the Properties, in the 'shortcut window.'
  • If you do not have a Computer Icon on the [Desktop]?
  • Click on the "Start Button."
  • In the (right pane), select to open the Computer 'shortcut menu.
  • Choose the "Properties" from the 'list.'
  • Check to see: if there's a DVD ROM Drive letter?
  • ie. (D:) in the "Device with Removable Storage area."
  • If the area is (Blank)?
  • Go to, and select All Programs, after clicking on the Start Button.
  • Scroll to find: the Media Disk Player.
*Note: "You made need to (Setup) the "Player!"
  • [2x] click open the Player, and select to "Setup / Install"

Now, go back to: {Start Button -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> "Device Manager" -> DVD / CD-ROM drives}
  • Open the [DVD-ROM].
  • "Update the Drivers"
  • Click on the [Driver] button.
  • Select; {Update Driver...}.
  • "Restart the Computer, again!"

Its not reading Maxell writeable DVD's

There is software "inside" the DVD-writer.
It is called "firmware".
The firmware reads the "label" off each disk,
to determine capacity, maximum recording-speed, and such parameters.

So, you need to access and search for updated firmware for your HP device, because the current firmware is _not_ recognizing the label on that one specific brand of "blank" media.
Updating the firmware will allow the recognition.

Dvd is not recognized

Hi there.

CD/DVD drives do not run using conventional drivers, this is why you can't find any. They use class filter drivers. This problem is more likely caused by having missing or corrupt filter drivers.

This is easy to get around. Class Filter Drivers are found in your Motherboard/Chipset drivers. So all you should need to do, is identify your motherboad and chipset, go to their website, do a search for your board, download and install the most current drivers for your board/chipset.

Once this is done, restart your system, if it hasn't done so already, and see if the drive is now recognised.

If the above doesn't work first time, it may be an idea to uninstall your media and burning software, then try the above steps, before re-installing the media and burning software.

Either way, let me know how you get on.

GSA-2166D recognized by computer but does not recogniz media?

Try removing the device from device manager, then reboot. Windows should then re-detect the device and re-install the drivers for it. If that doesn't work, try the device on another computer. If it still doesn't work, it's probably defective.

Burner not recognizing blank cd-r

Hi, Some of the burner drives require only certain media. Make sure that your burner does actually use the - media or the + media.

This may be why the media is not being recognised.

Let us know how you go,

Your plea sounds as if the Burners work pretty hard. It seems to me that you have laser burnout. There is as far I know noway to check this You will simply have go get a new one by hook or by crook. You could peruse this list to see if anything turns up.

My dvd burner can't find blank dvds

There is a possibility that you may have some bad media. Try another brand of DVD media. I got a hold of a bad spindle of DVD blanks one time and my burner wouldn't recognize them.
