You need to check the Master slave settings of this device, you can only have 1x master & 1x slave on an IDE channel, if you set to the wrong one then the devices will conflict, if you are replacing a drive check what setting it had and replicate the same setting on the replacement CD drive. the master slave setting pins are usually next to the 40pin IDE connector on the back of the drive. hope this helps :D

If you mean that you open "MY Computer" and your D drive and your E drive are not there, These are not programs but representations of the disks detected by the system..

Your main HDD, which Is usually your Primary master (connected to the Ribbon cable in the Primary IDE slot) MASTER is designated by jumpers on the drive itself.

If you hava a secondary HDD this would connect to the same Ribbon cable as the Main HDD (in most systems) but the jumpers on the HDD would designate it as SLAVE (to avoid conflict)

CDROM/Writers are usually on the SECONDARY IDE cable, with one set as MASTER and if you have a second, The second drive set as SLAVE, again using the jumpers on the drive itself.

If you have two drives on the same ribbon cable with the same settings, one of two things happens. 1 you can't see either of them. 2 you can only see one of them.

it is also possible (I have had this happen) that one of your CDROM/R Drives does not like to be SLAVE, and will conflict or not detect.

so you have to see what settings they will accept.

As CD drives communicate slower than HDDs putting a CD drive on the same ribbon cable as an HDD will reduce the data transfer rate of the HDD to the same transfer speed as the CD (this has largely been overcome with software now).

THe drive Letters C,D, E, F etc are assigned by the system, first all of the HDDs partitions are given Drive letters (unless hidden) then the CD rom drives are given Drive letters. It is possible to override this drive lettering to give specific devices particular designations, however it is not reccomended that you change the drive letter of your system partition. (as it can mess the whole system up)

    I hope this clarifies

_nec cd-rw nr-9300a stops working after eject (pc pauses very long for shutdown) in windows 7 but it operates well in windows xp

you might need to update the drivers for windows 7.
here are some other things you might try
make sure that the cd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
hope this helps
you only need to do this if you cant see your drive in my computer/windows explorer
if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

hope this helps

NEC CD RW NR 9200A not reading or writing

This is not a driver issue but to make sure, uninstall it from device manager and reboot. The computer will automatically find it and install them again.

The issue is with the hardware itself; the drive will need to be replaced and they can be had for under $25 for a DVD burner which will do more than what the one you have now will.

CD Burner

This will be a burner problem as in the laser is no longer able to read a disc and tell if it's full, empty or formated. I doubt it's a software problem, but you may have a faulty cdr disc so check a few or a different make as not all are compatable with all burner makes.
