Question about Zanussi WJS1397W Front Load Washer / Dryer

1 Answer

Drum Bearings. I need to know how to replace the drum bearings on my WJS1397 washer/drier. As far as i can make out, this is a difficult job best left to proffessionals. However, money is not abundant at the moment (we will struggle to find the money for the part on its own!!!) and this isnt the first time ive ferteled with this washer, so i must do this job myself. Any help is appreciated.

I recommend first of all ordering a repair manual. Or at least see if the parts come with detailed instructions on how to take out the old and install the new. You will probably have to replace the entire outer drum assembly. It's much more expensive in parts to do it that way than to just replace the bearings and seals, but much much easier and faster. Personally, I've replaced the entire drum assembly and also tried to replace just the bearings and seals. In the end I wasted the money on the bearings and seals and got an new assembly. I'd recommend just going for the new assembly and saving time.

I think the drive belt has gone as the motor sounds as if it is spinning but the drum isnt moving. How easy is it to fit a new drive belt?

I haven't worked on a Zanussi yet but usually once the top has been removed replacing the belt is a fairly straightforward and intuitive process - it is removing the top that tends to be the difficult part.

I expect washer-driers would be more difficult but so far I have managed to avoid those.

Miele WT945 drier removal

Hi dear.
It is very complicated work. I can suggest you should not involve doing that but if you know what you are doing try that out. See if it helps.
Common problem: Stuck drying air fan shaft.
1- Unplug machine from power. Remove top cover.
2- RHS at the back,on outer drum horizontally mounted motor, drives a belt.
3- Try to rotate motor shaft (impeller) by hand, see if it's hard to rotate. Try to make it free to rotate.
3- If you have a capacitance meter, check value of capacitor should be in range of 2.5 uF if not replace capacitor.
Beyond that you need to get tech. to assist your machine. I hope that helps so far. Thanks.

How do you change drum bearing on lg wm-1290fhb washing machine

It is a difficult job in terms of handling! You require spanners and bearing puller. You require one extra assistance to hold the drum and pull from the front.

You have to change the full set of Bearings with same type and design. Check the bearing housing and the shaft before fixing new ones! Replace the water seals if any

It sounds like the drum bearing needs replaced it squeals lik, is

No, not usually, not that expensive as far as parts, can be time consumeing, but not a difficult job, check all the drum support rollers, bearings, bushings, slides what ever is used in your model.
Do a quick once over observation while in there, check belt, pulley, idler, etc., clean out fire causing lint and other foreign matter that shouldn't be there, and then you should be good to go for a while.
Good luck !

Water leaking from rear seal

It is extremly difficult to change the seal and or bearings on a front load washer.

I'm a sears technician, and it is a 2 hour job for two of us to do it, and we know what has to come off and have done it, several times.

The cost of the job, is approx $450 for parts and labour.

The drum has started making a noise an appears to be free-er than usual

Remove top cover and look at outer drum, if it is plastic, then it is a complete stripdown of m/c, not recommended unless you really know what you are doing.
If it is a metal outer drum, then it can be done from rear of washer, without too much hassle.
If you are in the u/k, and you need spares, then go to,

Plz rate my solution.

Try lifting the inner drum to check if there is any movement between the inner and outer drums, also turn the drum and listen for any grinding or scraping sound from the rear of the drum. Its possible that your bearings have gone out & need to be replaced. The job is far from easy.

Drum is stiff

The bearings for the drum have failed and I reccondmend that you either get someone to do it or get yourself another machine.

The bearings can be replaced if your mechanically minded.... however this sort of job is best left to the experts...
