I have no idea what standby looks like; but I can't access the phonebook; I see the symbol, but nothing happens when i press it; I have successfully linked my cell and downloaded the phonebook from cell; all 37 numbers, but no matter what I do I can't get the phonebook to come up on the base or handset ......clear, menu, and select work; but the next button to the right, where the phone book symbol is does not depress

If you just want to dial a number in the phonebook, press up/down to find the entry you want then press TALK/FLASH. Look at page 10 in the manual, under "Using the Phonebook".

Press 'phonebook' then press the return key and then press keypad button.
You can now access the keypad to press "1"

I've just had the same problem. Just unplug the handet battery, then plug it back in again and you'll find the problem has gone away.

Copying Phonebook Entries to Another Handset:
You can transfer one phonebook entry at a time or all phonebook entries at once.
1) With the phone in standby, press the address book icon.
2) To copy one entry, find the phonebook entry you want to copy, press Menu /Select , and then select Copy.
To copy all entries, press Menu /Select and then select Copy All.
3) Move the cursor to select the handset which you want to transfer the entries to and then press Menu /Select .
If you select Copy All, Are you sure? appears on the display screen. Move the cursor to select Yes, and then
press Menu /Select .
4) The phonebook entries will be transferred to the designated handset. During the copy process, the receiving handset shows Receiving and the ID of the sending handset.
5) When the transfer is completed, Done! appears on the handset.


Notes: • The handsets must be currently connected to the same base.
• If the handset you want to transfer to already has seventy entries in its phonebook, you will hear a beep and Not enough memory in receiving unit appears on the display.
• If the selected handset is out of range or data transfer is cancelled, Unavailable appears in the display, Phonebook listings will not be transferred.

the "9" inside a lock means that your Num Lock button has been pressed. If all you see is the ">" then maybe you are looking at what's called a DOS prompt, and I have no idea why that would display. Try holding the Power Switch for 10 seconds and restart your computer. Hopefully things will be better, and you know where your Num Lock key is.

Pop the battery out and restart it, if not working you will have to do a MASTER RESET, check the manual please. that should do it for you

try giving master reset in your cell ...
then everything will be fine enough ............

Sounds like you may not be selecting the right menu buttom. The soft keys are right below the screen. these three buttons function change depending on which screen you are viewing. I have copied the instructions from the manual below. You must select phonebook to view the phone book using the round button. You must select volume to change the volume with the round button.


The Standby Screen
When the phone is in standby, the handset display shows the following items:

Using the Four-way Function Key
Your handset has a four-way function key that allows you to move the cursor (or highlighted area) on the display and access the most commonly used features at the touch of a button. By moving this key to the left, you open the Phonebook. Move the key to the right to access Caller ID information. To use this four-way key, place your thumb over the key on the station and move to the four positions to get the feel of how it moves and operates.
Using the Handset Menu
To open the menu, press the MENU soft key. Highlight the option you want by pressing the four-way function key. This will move the cursor; the option currently highlighted appears in reversed out text. Select the highlighted option by pressing the OK soft key. To exit the menu and return to standby, press [].
If you do not press a key within 30 seconds, the phone will time out and exit the menu. When setting Date and Time, the time-out period is extended to two minutes.

From the manual:
Press STANDBY/ON to put the system in standby, then press and hold the front panel (stop) button for about 8 seconds until the display shows Mem.clr?.
Press the front panel I<<<< or the >>>>I button so that the display shows Interlace?.
Press the front panel >/II button to set to interlace & switch the system back on.
