Printer thinks the ink cartridge is not installed-- but it is
We have exactly same problem as that posted by catada on Aug 03, 2007. Was the problem ever fixed? We have used the printer without problem for over a year and now suddenly it won't print, just keeps saying that the ink tank is not installed, when it actually is.
Thanks for any ideas

I recently changed my ink cartridges ( colors and black) and now it says that the ... why does my printer say ink cartridge missing or damaged? ... cartridge from Office max and it still has the message and I am unable to print. ... Remove the cartridge and take a close look at the tiny circuit card on the section ...
clean the contacts with a clean cloth. I'm assuming that the cartridge is from the manufacturer of the printer if not, try to use the ink cartridge for that printer. Also make sure that the cartridge is securely placed in the bay and is not wiggling.
Even new cartridges can prove to be faulty; even more so ones that have be refilled. If you have exhausted the options in the print software (i.e. Test Print, Print Alignment, Head Cleaning, etc.) and the reseating of the cartridge a few times, then depending on your will for either try:
1. Go to the store and replace the cartridge telling them you think its faulty.
2. Firstly, Unplug the Printers connecting cable (USB, DB25, etc.).Then uninstall both the Printing software and Printer drivers (usually the same package) under "Add Remove Programs" (Windows OS). Restart the computer, then reinstall the Printer software (following the prompts on exactly when to reconnect the printer to the computer, *Important*), and then restart again.
LEAVE PRINTER ON THEN, 1 remove ALL ink cartridges and close all covers 2 unplug power cord from back of printer 3 wait 4 minutes 4 plug power cord back in and wait for 10 minutes 5 when prompted install ink cartridges and wait a few minutes
Click the setup button on the front of the printer scroll down to the tools menu and then run clean print head 3 times and last of all run align printer 1 time.
yeah it sounds like a cartridge sensors are stuck or broken. i would say to replace the whole print unit. It will need a service support dealer to fit this part unless you can buy it and fir it yourself.
Did you perhaps not mean to post under the 1315? I am not sure if you have this printer or another model. The 1315 normally takes a different number ink cartridge.
Meanwhile - gotta tell you that the 1315 is the buggiest printer I ever had. If you purchased it recently and can find your receipt, I'd take it back! Since they've pretty much done away with the 1315, if it was a recent purchase, it was likely a clearance item from some place.
Try taking all the ink cartridges out, uninstall the printer entirely, and reinstall it (the entire printer, not just the cartridges). Blow your printer out with canned air as well - dust, pet hair, people hair, fuzz and general paper fibers can build up more than we think, and cause error messages and other printing problems.
That should help, if it was the 1315 model.
That being said, note that if it still doesn't work, and you have the 1315, save yourself a lot of grief and toss it in the trash and buy another cheap printer! 1315 is Bug City!
It's because you touched the connection side of the cartidge. Clean it with some contact cleaner(or surgical sprit)and let it dry.If possible clean the printer side of catridge contact. After both are dried well, put the catridge back.it must work.
