Drive Replacement I have a ADIC Scalar 218 that has an issue with one of the drives, would you have any documentation and or know how to remove the drives? I have pretty much exhausted all my resources including sending Quantum and email. I have removed most of the plates in the rear and bottom of the library but to no prevail. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Here is the documentation.

Chapter 5 and 6 cover trouble shooting. I'm afraid i've never had experience with that particular tape system.

HOW TO OPEN

If you open the I/O door, you can open the library door. You can then reach in and down. (The library door is next to the I/O drawer, where LCD screen is located. Opens on a hinge that is placed on the left of the door)

Can I patch my FC tape drives directly into my FC switch or can I only attach the tape drives directly to hosts? I don't have FC I/O Blades in this i500.

I'm not an expert on current technologies but any FC device should log in to any FC switch. Make life easier on yourself and zone the port instead of the WWN.

ADIC Scalar 24 LTO2 Drive issue

We have the same problem with our ADIC Scalar 24. The only way we have been able to eject the tape is to cycle power on the tape library and after it has finished reading the tape barcodes, we can use the front panel command to unmount the tape that is in the drive. We haven't been able to find a solution to the problem and it happens at least once a week

TAPE LIBRARY PROBLEM

As I understand it, the SNC is basically a Fibre/SCSI Bridge... and what you are seeing is the FC light being on means that the SNC is connected to the Fibre SAN... but there drives aren't connected to the bridge. Check out http://downloads.quantum.com/scalar/S24/omUsersGuideSNC4000.pdf for information on how to connect to the SNC and run the discovery process. You'll most likely have to connect via serial connection, and the document I included does a great job of discribing that process. I'd suggest that you request an IP Address from your IT folks beforehand, so that you can configure it on your IP Network whaile you're at it.
